We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaime Chalk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaime, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I feel like I’ve had a fire in my belly to do something different for several years now. I have spent my career as a registered nurse working in emergency rooms, and while it’s certainly been an experience, its not all sunshine and roses. Nursing burn out is real. But, more than that, there has been a shift in healthcare – or maybe just my perspective. Healthcare, at least to me, has become very reactive. We treat symptoms instead of underlying problems, most of which are very easy to fix or prevent. It’s disheartening to see so many of patients overweight, depressed, on handfuls of medications and with no real answers except another pill, even children! Furthermore, the pandemic has shed a lot of light on the healthcare industry. On threats of losing my job for protecting my own medical freedom, I decided to “take the leap” into entrepreneurship. Primary Hydration Wellness is an excellent way to make good use of my well-earned education and skills and continue to provide exceptional care while supporting community wellness.

What should our readers know about your business?

At Primary Hydration & Wellness, we believe that when you look and feel your best, you show up differently in your life. That small difference can have massive impact in your home, your community, or even the world! Something as simple as staying hydrated can help boost your energy, improve sleep quality, mood, focus and productivity. That’s why we provide the most conveniet, efficient and effective way to stay hydrated and restore essential nutrients.

It’s been an amazing experience so far and I’m incredibly excited about the future of Primary Hydration & Wellness. There have been so many great conversations with other like-minded health & wellness professionals, and the prospect of partnerships looks bright! My hope is to be part of a functional wellness collaborative that will provide a full-spectrum of services to help our community make lasting, positive changes in their lives.

The most challenging thing has been putting in the time to learn all the aspects of entrepreneurship and business ownership, then putting those things into practice as I go. I feel like I could have a new career is 6 different fields if I wanted- accounting, web development, copywriting… It’s been great though, I love to learn!

It’s my hope that other nurses see my story and feel inspired. I know it’s easy to feel trapped in the hospital setting; confined by policies and doctors orders. You are valuable, you make the difference, you have choices.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are in the heart of DFW! There are so many awesome experiences nearby. Grandscape in The Colony Texas is a must-see! Food, fun and shopping all in one – Andretti go-Kart racing, outdoor live music, and fresh-made cookie ice-cream sandwiches from the Baked Bear. Next, boutique-shopping and wine tasting in Grapevine, Texas. And, of course, a trip to The Stock Yards, Ft. Worth, Texas – complete with dinner and margaritas at Joe T Gacias and late night concert and dancing at Billy Bobs Texas! It just doesn’t get any more Texan than that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I’d like to recognize all the nurses who have shaped my career – you are all God-sent! Of course, I could never run my own business without the support of my husband and friends.

I’d also like to shoutout Jaime at The Mac House Co. (Yes, we have the same name.) She is just the most badass lady who ever encouraged me to get up and “do the dang thang.” Her content is geared towards women’s mindset and helping them understand just how vital is it to take care of yourself amidst the chais of life and motherhood.
