We had the good fortune of connecting with Jade Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jade, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Photography has been a passion of mine since I received my first camera back in 7th grade. Throughout the years, it was something I did for friends and family, as a hobby. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I decided to turn it into my career. It just made sense. If this is what I love to do, why not make a business out of it? For a while I went back and forth with my own thoughts of how I wanted to go about starting, but I figured the longer I contemplated, the longer it would take me to get started. So I decided to take a leap of faith and go for it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Videography was actually my first love. Before I ever took my first picture, I had directed and edited several videos. When YouTube first became popular, my friends and I would make different skits. Over time I started to explore photography, which I discovered I love equally as much as videography. I can’t even explain the joy it brings me when I see people’s reaction to my work. I love capturing those special moments that will last a lifetime. Every photographer has their own style. Even though I shoot with a digital camera, my editing style is more vintage. I like to give my images sort of a film, grainy, retro look. My style sets me apart because people can look at a photo and tell it’s my work. That was most important to me starting out and even now.. creating a brand that people can recognize and genuinely appreciate.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve only been in Dallas for a few years, but I can honestly say there is so much to explore here. Being from Louisiana, I am very picky about food. So if I like a place, just know it’s good! Lolo’s Chicken & Waffles is a must visit for soul food and brunch. If you want the strongest drinks, Gloria’s will make sure you leave feeling good! Vidorra is the new “it” spot for day drinking and good vibes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, where do I begin? One thing I thank God for on a daily basis is my support system! I can honestly say, I have always had the resources and support I needed to be successful in whatever avenue I chose. My family has always been encouraging and pushed me to do great things. I cannot dedicate this shout out to one person, or group, because I’ve been blessed to be surrounded my individuals who saw my potential and motivated me to be the best in my career. For that, I am thankful.
