We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada Fuhrman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jada, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started The Salty Cowgirl by accident! In 2017, before social media had completely taken over, I started a Facebook page to share funny quotes and pictures of cowgirl life. Most of the posts were pretty sassy and the page grew like wildfire. I knew I was onto something but really had no idea how to grow an online business and did not have a budget to start one. Our first shirt was a black tee with The Salty Cowgirl logo. I hired a girl on Fiverr to create the logo, she was from Sweden and didn’t exactly speak “cowgirl”. It took a few revisions but we created a design that is still our best seller 5 years later. I paid $65 for that logo and was worried sick that it was a mistake to spend the money.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Salty Cowgirl has grown from a funny Facebook page into a western lifestyle brand with over a million in sales and customers in every time zone! We grew so quickly, and we were having some much fun doing it, that I have to say it was easy. I don’t feel like we ever had growing pains or any huge challenges to overcome. My daughter, Cassidy, has joined me in the business and that is a huge blessing. We love getting to travel together to markets and explore new things.
We have learned way more about social media and things like algorithms than we ever wanted to know. Mastering marketing platforms for text and email has been a bit more difficult but we are getting a handle on that too.
In spite of our rapid growth we still have small business mindset. We are still home based and handle all of the day to day tasks. When customers receive an order there is a high probability it was packed by either Cassidy or myself. We love that our business is based on a western lifestyle and that we are able to share our love of all things cowgirl.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well you know we are going to hit The Stockyards hard! We love the shopping and dining and of course, the night life. A concert at Billy Bob’s would definitely make the list of things to do. Naturally, we would want to see that cattle drive. The last time we were there we persuaded our 75 year old grandma to climb on up and have her picture taken on one! After the cattle drive we would head on over to H3 Ranch for steak and cocktails.
A trip for us wouldn’t be complete without taking in an event at the Cowtown Coliseum. Cassidy got to team rope there during The Cowgirl Gathering and we’ve been dying to go back.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give my shoutout to my husband David. He is my biggest supporter and always believes in me even when I don’t. He has stood by me through all my shenanigans! He has a never failing belief in me and without him I would never have made a success of The Salty Cowgirl.
