We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacquin Headen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacquin, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
When it come to interior design, many people don’t realize the extensive level of detail it takes to create a spectacular design for clients. Sometimes I go through THOUSANDS of products just to find the perfect rug, for example. A designer like myself with great attention to detail and a spirit of excellence will go above and beyond to find the perfect selections. The amount of time it takes to research and curate a space for each unique client would be shocking to people, but it’s all a part of the process. That’s why interior design is a career you really have to love, and I must say that I love it!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a decorating business and lifestyle blog, Interiors by Jacquin, in addition to being a fine art painter. After transitioning from a career in the Law, I immersed myself in creative entrepreneurship. I launched Interiors by Jacquin to share my unique and discerning eye for design, style, and art with individuals looking to make their home POP with stunning décor. Working as an abstract artist has been a great combination with interior design. I offer custom artwork commissions to clients to match their own personal décor, which I absolutely love doing! Over the years, I have also developed a love for helping other entrepreneurs. During my time in the legal profession, I was trained as a negotiator and I now teach negotiation seminars at conferences to help women and entrepreneurs learn how to effectively negotiate for themselves. My life as an entrepreneur has many facets, which I believe gives me a unique perspective as a creative and entrepreneur.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here are a few of my favorite places in Dallas! Blue Print Store & Gallery – Beautiful home décor and fine art store, all within a residential house transformed into a 2-floor shopping experience. They have great art shows throughout the year too . Blue Sushi Sake Grill – You’ll love their patio area. It’s the perfect setting for enjoying their excellent sushi. Sprinkles Cupcakes – They have the BEST cupcakes in Dallas!! You can’t go wrong with any of their options, but if you want to try something new I recommend their Peanut Butter Chocolate or Salty Carmel. Dallas Museum of Art – I love when the museum is open for extended evening hours, it makes for a great evening in downtown Dallas. Eataly – If you haven’t been yet, you should make a reservation asap. It’s such a nice experience. Their branzino fish entrée is AMAZING and their grocery store section will truly inspire you. I can’t wait to go back!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I moved to Dallas after living in many different cities, it was so encouraging to connect with a group of women leaders and entrepreneurs through the organization Nameless Collaborative. They are a Christian organization that offers networking and amazing leadership development for women of all ages. I was thrilled to learn that their members truly support one another. Their motto is ‘collaboration over competition’ and as a woman entrepreneur, that was exactly the kind of support and encouragement I needed as I grew my business in DFW. I am so thankful for the enriching Nameless Collaborative community!
