We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacqueline, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue an artistic/creative photography career because it’s my passion. I wanted to be able to make a living doing what I love, but I also wanted to be able to connect with people and capture moments that they will cherish for a lifetime. Photography is a way for me to express myself, tell stories, and explore God’s beautiful creation. Beauty is everywhere, it’s all about perspective and I love being able to share mine.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love making people look and feel their best in images while capturing their special moments in life. As an artist I feel that what sets me apart from others is my willingness to be flexible with clients as well as my style and perspective. I’m able to capture peoples authentic personalities and their emotions so that their images reflect their story.
I’m most proud of myself for believing in my craft when no one else did. Getting to where I’m at was not easy for me at all. When I was I starting this journey, so many negative things were said to me, but God made a way. I feel that I overcame the challenges by holding on to God’s promises, staying creative, pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and by continuously learning and improving my craft.
I think one of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that sometimes, other creatives won’t be willing to help you, but that doesn’t mean you should do the same and not help someone else. You don’t lose anything by sharing your skills and knowledge with others. I learned to be the help I wish I had.
I’m very excited and would like people to know that in the near future, I will still be a photographer, but also a graphic designer. I am currently in school working towards obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Graphic design.
I would also like for people to know that if they’re passionate about something, they should pursue it. Don’t let others chose your life path for you. Believe in yourself and in your craft and never stop learning.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are lots of fun places to visit in DFW but I personally really love the outdoors. If the weather is nice, I would probably take them to The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, The Klyde Warren Park, or The Fort Worth Stockyards. The art museums are very fun to visit too, so we’d maybe stop by The Dallas Museum of Art or the Lighthouse ArtSpace Dallas. I would take them to eat some tacos and drink a nice, ice cold, Coca Cola.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, I wouldn’t be where I am today without God. I’ve had several struggles throughout my photography journey, and God has helped me through every single one. Everything I capture in my images is a reflection of His creation, He deserves all the Glory.
I also wouldn’t be here without the love, support, and encouragement that my parents provide. They’re business owners themselves and they inspire me each day to keep going. They do so much for me and they’re a big reason why photography for me is even possible. My siblings, close friends, and family are also very supportive and are always encouraging me or giving me ideas.
I would also like to give credit to those who have chosen me to capture special moments in their lives. My photography journey would not be possible without them.
