We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabel Wicker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabel, what principle do you value most?
Empathy. When we have genuine empathy, it opens a way for connection. I’ve witnessed this in my process as an actress but also in my personal life. In acting, I must have empathy to play the role of someone who is nothing like me, maybe someone I would even go as far to judge. But by making the effort to genuinely understand someone, you are taken out of the realm of judgement and you are placed into a space of connection. This is even more prevalent in my personal life. Empathy allows me to appreciate those close to me for who they truly are, not the mistakes they make. Having empathy has given me great power to love deeper.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I originally began acting at age 8 upon hearing a radio announcement that promised to get me on TV with Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez if I attended a talent showcase, which was clearly a scam, but it was in my endeavor that I discovered my love for acting. Afterwards I signed with an agency and began going out on auditions and working mainly on commercials. I continued auditioning and taking acting classes religiously but at times it seemed as though all my efforts were futile. I wasn’t booking the jobs I felt passionate and excited about, which were film and TV. I’ve had many moments where I’ve been tempted to quit because the weight of rejection becomes incredibly heavy, but what I’ve learned is, you don’t have to carry that weight. When pursuing a creative career, you must find sources of happiness other than your art. Do not allow your success or failure as an artist to deter you from your happiness. That being said, I’m proud to have booked my first two TV roles in 2022 at age 20, one for “Law and Order’ and the other for “The Chosen”.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to the Fort Worth Stockyards! I recently went and got to pet the cutest goats at their petting zoo, find my way through a wooden fence maze, and embarrass myself as I fell off an electric bull.
I’d also take them to Lone Star Kartpark where you can ride go karts that go up to 50 mph on a huge outdoor track!
To eat I’d probably take them to Velvet Taco because I’m OBSESSED with their loaded tater tots. Velvet Taco sells these loaded tots that come with goat cheese, cheddar cheese, avocado crema, bacon and a fried egg on top. I get hungry just thinking about it!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Nobody compares to my mother. Since day one she has supported me in every single one of my aspirations. Growing up, any avenue I wanted to explore, she was there to cheer me on. She encourages me in anything and everything I desire to do. She is the closest I will ever be to unconditional love here on earth. By immigrating here at 22 years old from Honduras, my mother paved the way for me to have a future without limitations. She has taught me by example what it means to be resilient, disciplined, loving and humble. Her light shines so brightly that it fuels me to spread that light to the world. None of what I do today would be even remotely possible if it weren’t for my mami.
