We had the good fortune of connecting with India Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi India, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As an Early Childhood educator, I would see certain things that I wanted to incorporate into my schools culture, however I didn’t have as much of a voice as other Faculty and staff. I’ve had this vision and dream of having my own Childcare for many years. I could see this lane that I’ wanted to conquer, to take on and be able to Execute. After I was done allowing fear to operate my every move, I made a hard a decision, Go big or stop being upset at where life continues to be for me and my children year after year. So I decided to beat on ME, no longer a school district that has a great benefits package, but just ME.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets my childcare apart, from other childcare’s is that at Promise Academy we lead with love. After many years of teaching, I’ve learned that you can’t reach a child or their family, if you don’t start out with a display of love. If they feel love they will thrive!

I feel such a tremendous amount of excitement in knowing I am creating a legacy to leave for my children.

It’s such a God thing, that lead me to this point, stepping out in faith is scary, but God gave me a nice firm father like push when my time had come to end my teaching career and become a business owner.

If anyone tells you starting a business from scratch is easy, please introduce them to me!!! It’s definitely a NOT so easy experience, the highs, the lows as well as the unknown things that are up ahead, can definitely cause a person to throw in the towel.
If I could give anyone a piece of advice, I’d say bet on you, bet on yourself! We are all surrounded by a world that tells us, get an education and work for a great company. I say become the company you want great people to work for!

One thing I always want people to know, is that we all have chapters in our book of life that we aren’t so proud about, however don’t allow one chapter in your story to determine or dictate where you are headed in life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first take them to the Gathering Place, it is one of the best parks in the world. It has some of the best views, activities and food anyone could ever want.

I’m most definitely finding a couple Mexican restaurants to visit. I love Mexican food with a passion!! Street tacos are a must!

I come from a very close family, so we would be hanging out with my family during a portion of their visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The list is a mile long! I’ve been extremely blessed with so many people who support me. My mom has been a huge reason for my success. She is there no matter what!! She supports me and every move I make, she just wants to help me live out my dreams. I also, follow Pastors Sino and Kellie Agueze, out of Mississippi and Pastor Sino is BIG on ownership and buying back our own time. It’s something that has stuck with me and continues to grow on me daily. I’m thankful to all my family and friends! Without them, I could not be where I am today.

Thank you to all my family and friends for being the real MVP’s in my life, God has truly blessed me!! Thank you to my kiddos Ahlaya, Ahnya and James for pushing me and motivating me to take risk, no matter what and to live life to the fullest! Lastly, Seneca Thank you for encouraging me and supporting me on the days I feel like giving up. Your words have helped carry me throughout this journey!
