We had the good fortune of connecting with Hunney Marshall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hunney, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from a small town called Hollandale Mississippi. Growing up in a small town allowed me to have small town values that I have carried with me throughout my life and career. I value family and real friendships. I operate in excellence in all aspects of my life; and I love wholeheartedly and without conditions.

My upbringing gave me the foundation I needed to always be myself unapologetically. While I grew up in a conservative place, my parents never allowed the opinions of others to affect my upbringing. My mother always taught me to be myself no matter what. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about my parents, because both of them are among the ancestors now. However, they remain my driving force. Whenever I doubt moving forward with an idea or project, I remember their words of encouragement and I move forward.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hunney LLC is a fashion consulting and personal shopping agency. We are proud to be able to help people feel better about themselves internally by dressing better externally. While we know that being a whole individual takes a lot more than clothes, we enjoy helping people to be able to look in the mirror and dress the way they want to feel. I have always had a passion for fashion. As a child, I modeled my mom’s clothes around the house and in college I modeled on several runways. I decided that the feeling I felt when I dressed up was one I wanted to share with others. It was not easy to start my own business. I had to learn to navigate the entrepreneur world with limited resources, while working a full-time job because bills have to be paid. However, I decided my dreams are worth the time, energy, and sacrifice so I continue to move forward on this journey.

I learned to trust my instincts. Self-doubt can be tricky and is something we have to fight continually. But I have learned to go with my gut, stand by the decisions I make, and make adjustments as needed. I also learned to fail forward. It can be easy to see a failed promotion or failed offering as a personal failure, but now I see them as opportunities to grow and change.

I want to world to know that I am here and I am ready to help you with all of your fashion styling and personal shopping needs. From the grocery store to the runway, we want you to dress like your best self.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For a trip to the Dallas area, we would have to check out the local restaurants like Catbird and Moxie’s for happy hour and dinner.

No trip is complete without shopping. Highland Park Village is one of my favorite places to shop. We can hit Christian Louboutin, Carolina Herrera, Alexander McQueen, and some other shops. I also love a good deal so we would have to go to Off Saks and Nordstrom’s Rack.

We would also have to check out Klyde Warren Park to check out a movie or party in the park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout is dedicated to my parents. Julist and William were the greatest parents a woman growing up in the Mississippi Delta could ask for. They taught me to love myself and be myself unapologetically. I know that even though they are no longer here with me in the earthly realm, they continue to watch over me from the spiritual realm.
