We had the good fortune of connecting with Huey Rawls and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Huey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I didn’t really think of my brand as a business starting off. I was mainly trying to think of a unique way to identify myself when editing and shooting videos as a freelancer. I was looking at different names and meanings when I noticed the term NERVY which in some context means bold and courageous. I thought of my style of storytelling and the messages I wanted to convey visually as being distinct. And then it hit me….So Nervy Films and the rest is history!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So Nervy Films, LLC specializes in narrative films, commercials, music videos, etc. I have an extensive reel of artists both notable and underground that I have collaborated with over the years. I love taking simple ideas and bringing them to fruition visually. It’s no greater joy to see something you pictured in your head or on paper turn into a visual experience for everyone to appreciate. Was it easy? Life isn’t easy period. You just have to deal with the cards you’re dealt and roll with the punches. I think my success is a combination of betting on yourself, investments, family and prayer.

I’m not where I want to be yet. I will continue to try to maintain some form of consistency, plan and execute. A wise man once said: “The biggest risk is the one not taken.” I took a risk and left corporate America to pursue a dream and work on a legacy for my family. I’ve struggled just like any normal person would but never lost my faith in myself and a higher power.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Alright you caught me off guard with this one. We got to hit South Dallas and pull up on Aunt Irene’s Kitchen. We gone get the black box special with catfish. If they want to enjoy some good music, we can hit the Free Man in Deep Ellum. I’m pretty sure some artist I know got a show somewhere locally but I ain’t bringing a camera just fun. If we can get a ticket then it’s a MAVS game night or we riding to AT&T stadium. In all honesty though, I rarely go out unless I’m getting paid to do so but I know where to get good food cause I’m gone eat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my three beautiful children. They inspire me in so many ways and motivate me to keep going. They owe me nothing in life but to be better.
