We had the good fortune of connecting with Holly Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Holly, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be that a simple act of kindness has been able to change so many people’s lives for the better. Putting love and kindness into the world is never in vain.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Walls of Love is definitely a labor of love. It was born from a need and fueled by personal experiences that I lived through. As a domestic violence and sexual assault survivor, in leaving an unsafe situation so many years ago, pregnant, having to humble myself to ask for help and not being able to get it was devastating. I felt judged by people who knew nothing about what I was going through. I wasn’t homeless because I was an addict, irresponsible, released from jail or an alcoholic. I left for the safety of my unborn child. Some of what I do now is help educate the public on misinformation and judgements of the homeless situation. I also feel the pandemic has taught us all we are all only one major catastrophe away from potentially being in the same situation. It costs nothing to be kind.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Cleveland is an amazing city and there is so much to do. Definitely on the agenda is:
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The Aquarium
Cleveland Museum of Art
Cedar Point
Guardians/Cavaliers/Browns game depending on the season
Lolley the Trolley
B A Sweetie Candy Company
Tremont
and a tour of all the best food we have to offer including:
Heck’s Cafe
Bourbon Street Barrel Room
Crust AND Edison’s Pizza
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my: family, friends, co workers and the hundreds of volunteers and donors that donate to this cause and those that help assemble Walls of Love across the USA. Without all of them we could not continue to do what we do.
