We had the good fortune of connecting with Hiram & Kari Castro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hiram & Kari, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance is the classic struggle of nearly every working person with a family. This is something we have learned to embrace and constantly reevaluate with the changes each season in our lives brings. For example, when we were newly married, we were able to devote more time time to growing our business and used our free time to really invest in it. Now that we have two small children, we are pulled in other directions. The key is, we have to understand and accept that it isn’t always going to be an even balance. Some days we have to pour more into our work, and other days we have to pour more into our children and ourselves. It takes a constant mindfulness to be able to find that balance every day, because at the end of the day, we have to remember why we are doing what we do. We work hard to provide for our family and to be able to enjoy our life together every single day.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We constantly get new ideas for sliding barn doors from our customers. We love to see what designs they have in mind for their space, and are excited to make it a reality for them. People spend a large amount of time in their homes and offices, and we want to create functional pieces of art that spark a conversation or make their space unique. We are thankful to be where we are today and had to learn several things along the way, including how to use new tools, how to properly use social media to our advantage and how to balance our time. It came with some challenges, but overall it has made our company stronger and our products better. We stand behind our work and do not collect payment until the final product is installed and our customers are satisfied.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We owe a large amount of our success to Stone Crest Wedding Venue. They were one of our first major clients in 2016 when they enlisted us to build 11 sliding barn doors for their venue. The fact they trusted us to take on a project of such a large scale really gave us the confidence boost to pursue this path and put us in front of other potential customers. Since then, we have done work for several realtors, interior designers, as well as new wedding venue, The French Farmhouse Venue, and the Landon Winery. We have several repeat customers and earn most of our new business through customer referrals.
