Meet Heather Walker | Owner/ Operator of Brite Smiles

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
That is a very good question. A flood of thoughts and ideas coming rushing in. I would say first and foremost, I wanted a career change. I had worked in the dental field my whole career. But after all that time, what else could I do?. Secondly I really wanted to work for myself. I am a hard worker and I am good with people. Thirdly, I wanted to offer teeth whitening to the public at a way more affordable price. So I took all of those ingredients and started Brite Smiles by Heather LLC

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started working in the dental field at a young age. I have seen first hand, the migration and change with dentistry. The fact that I am a dental professional is what sets me apart. I want people to know that you do not have to go to a dentist to have your teeth professionaly whitened. My studio is very comfortable and I charge about a third for teeth whitening of what you would pay at a dentist’s office.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well it’s Denton TX, there is so much to do. Just outside my studios front door, there are shops, resturants, cool bars, and a food truck area. All are in walking distance and all are localy owned. If it’s early summer time then we have twilght tunes. We would grab a cooler and a blanket and get comfortable for the free concerts on the couthouse lawn each Thursday. If its late May, we are bar crawling with history. We get to visit the old historic buildings and basements and learn about each one. If it is October, then we are cheering on the coffin races at the Day of the Dead festival. There is always something fun going on in Denton.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definetly like to give a shout out to my husband for always supporting me with this business idea. He has given his 100% support the whole way. From listening to me talking about every detail to helping me paint walls at my studio. I also have an amazing support system in general, from family to friends.
As far as a book that has touched my life, well there are so many. I did not develope the love of reading until my early thirties. I love to read non fiction. Real stories touch me so much more than fiction. I love to read about people’s journeys, the experiences that helped mold them.
