We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Dearmore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was a deeply personal decision that came from my experience as an autism mom and my desire to create a space where all children feel included. I envisioned a place where kids with autism, kids with sensory needs, kids with special needs and neurotypical kids could ALL play freely without judgement, a place where parents could feel supported, and where families could find a sense of belonging.

I truly believe God placed this calling on my heart – not just to create a play space, but to build a supportive community for families like ours. That’s why, in addition to my business, I also want to start a Bible study for special needs moms. I know firsthand how challenging and isolating this journey can be, and I want to create a space where moms can find encouragement, faith, and connection.

Your branding is so vibrant and unique – what inspired your logo and design choices?
When I created our logo, I had a specific color palette in mind. As a child of the 90’s, I love bright colors, and I wanted to bring that energy into our brand. Autism is often represented by red, yellow, and blue, but I wanted to change that. I wanted our colors to reflect the joy, beauty, and vibrancy of autism.

Our logo also has a deeper meaning – the girl on the swing represents my daughter, Acacia. Autism in girls is often overlooked, so I wanted to make sure they were represented in our branding.

One of the things I’m most proud of is ‘Acacia’s Alphabet’, a unique alphabet I designed, which is now a mural in our playground. I’ve also created all the graphics you see throughout our space, as well as on our website and social media. Designing is my creative outlet, and it’s something I truly love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, I’d want to make the most of every second! We’ve been best friends for 36 years, but since she lives in another state, we haven’t seen each other in two years – we do text all day though!

We’d start the day by grabbing coffee from one of my favorite spots, World Blend. Then, we’d go thrifting at some of my favorite places – Second Glance, Christ’s Haven Resale Shop, and Texas Thrift – because we both love a good find. Of course, I’d have to take her to see Colors of the Alphabet in person. She’s been such a huge encouragement throughout this journey, and I know she’d love getting to experience the space firsthand.

After that, I’d take her to Grapevine’s Main Street. We’d walk around and peek in some of the cute shops. I’d take her to dinner at my newest favorite restaurant, Napolis. Their bruschetta is a must!

I know we’d end the evening back at my house, relaxing and binge-watching Gilmore Girls or Friends. Nothing is better than hanging out, laughing, and watching our favorite shows together.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without hesitation, I would recognize my husband, Scott. From the moment we met, he has been incredibly supportive – not just of me, but of my daughter as well. He’s a father to all neurotypical children so autism was completely new to him, now being a stepdad to Acacia, but he has embraced it with an open heart. I couldn’t ask for a better stepfather for her.

Scott is also my business partner and co-founder of Colors of the Alphabet. We’ve talked about creating summer camps for kids with autism since we met, because I could never find the right fit for my daughter. When I finally told him I wanted to create an indoor playground for ALL children, his response was, “Absolutely, let’s do it.” He’s been my shoulder to cry on when days are dark and difficult. He’s my biggest encourager. And he’s the person I trust most to bounce around ideas with. I’m so grateful to be on this journey with him.
