We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayley Chow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hayley, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is being wasted way, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18. It is a constant reminder that you can always start over. Tomorrow is always a new day, and you have all the control to make it whatever you want it to be.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As the Director and Curator, it has been the opportunity of a lifetime to build Kauri Gallery from the ground up. Kauri Gallery is proud to be displaying an exclusive collection of rare Ancient Kauri Wood sculpture; the largest collection in the world. This sets us apart because we are essentially showcasing history. The wood itself, all imported from New Zealand, dates back to as long as 45,000 years old, at the end of the Ige Age. We are honored to introduce this commodity to Dallas and to tell the story of Ancient Kauri wood. On top of that, we are thrilled to represent both local and international artists. Our fine art collection ranges from landscape, to abstract, to wall sculpture.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When it comes to eatery, some of my favorite spots are Monarch, Rise, and Sushi Robata. The Texas Theatre is one of my favorite places in Dallas. There you can catch Classic films that aren’t shown anywhere else. Gallery hopping on Dragon street in the Design District is a great way to spend the day and is extremely convenient with all galleries being within walking distance of each other. For the best atmosphere and a lively rooftop, RH Rooftop is a spectacular place to dine or grab a drink.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am thankful to the entire Dallas art community, whether it be gallery owners, directors, artists, or art enthusiasts. The community is small, but unbelievably supportive. It is exciting that the arts in Dallas is growing so rapidly and I’m looking forward to seeing what the area looks like in several years.
