We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayisha Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hayisha, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most invaluable lesson my journey has taught me is the power of resilience—never giving up, no matter the obstacles. Embracing challenges with unwavering persistence has not only fueled my personal growth but has become the driving force behind overcoming adversities and ensuring the sustained success of my endeavors.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My creative journey kicked off in college, where I started crafting custom clothing for family and friends around 2011. By 2014, I expanded my skills to create personalized pieces for my son. Encouraged by loved ones, I founded Young Lion Co. in January 2017, specializing initially in customizing children’s clothing and accessories.
However, personal challenges, including the loss of my parents, led me to grapple with emotional and mental health issues. To focus on healing, I took a break, seeking therapy. The pandemic underscored the importance of creativity in my life. In August 2021, I launched “Custom Crocs,” reigniting my passion. Now, I proudly customize Crocs, clothing, and accessories for all, finding renewed purpose and artistic expression in the process.
Aside from being a “Bling Artist,” I recently graduated as a barber and am a licensed insurance agent. Beyond that, I wear hats as a content creator, model, and aspiring actress. This year, I’ve successfully achieved numerous goals across these diverse pursuits.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were hosting my best friend in the DFW for a week, I’d take them to some of the city’s standout places. We’d start in Dallas with brunch at Bread Winners Café & Bakery, explore the vibrant Dallas Arts District, and enjoy the inviting atmosphere at The Free Mans Cajun Cafe. For a taste of Texas flair, we’d head to Texas Live for live music and hearty dishes. A visit to the Dallas Arboretum would definitely be on the agenda. We’d also venture to Deep Ellum for its eclectic art scene and grab lunch at Twisted Root Burger Co. A leisurely afternoon at Klyde Warren Park and a fun turn up at Harlowe’s would round out the experience. Ending the week with brunch at Jonathon’s Oak Cliff and a stroll through the Dallas Farmers Market would be the perfect farewell to our Dallas adventure.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Credit and recognition extend to my dear grandma, whose unwavering encouragement has been a constant pillar of support. My heartfelt appreciation goes to my partner, a catalyst in launching my first business.
I must also express deep gratitude to Kayona Hannah of Swerve Productions, whose casting expertise propelled me into my first movie role. Her vision and support have been instrumental, shaping a significant chapter in my journey.
Special acknowledgment is due to Frank Rashad of Hood Hippie Culture, Frederick Russell III of JFL Productions, and Darwin Millage of No Flukes! Their pivotal roles in my journey are indispensable, and I am genuinely grateful for the privilege of crossing paths with these remarkable individuals.
