We had the good fortune of connecting with Hasina Echoles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hasina, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has definitely changed over time. When I first started my business I felt that I needed to be working all of the time. If I was not then I was not working hard enough. I often neglected myself, friends, and family because of that mindset. This led to no balance. Now I realize that you can work really hard, accomplish your goals, and be 100% dedicated and still spend time on yourself as well as your family and friends. It is important to rest, to take time to reflect and give yourself the grace to take a break and pay attention to your body and mind.

What should our readers know about your business?
Global Speech and Rehab Services is a company that provides speech therapy to children with special needs. We provide these services in our private practice, online, and we also contract with our local school district.

I am most proud of the way the business has developed over the last six years and I am even more excited about the direction that we are headed. In the past six years I have managed to grow the company from me being the only speech pathologist and employee to having a team of over 18 and counting.

I got here by taking risks, putting fear to the side and pushing through. It was not easy and there are many days that I thought of going back to a job. After being in business for a few years I realized that a business has ups and downs. I learned to temper my emotions by not getting too low on things that did not go my way and celebrating the wins along the journey. As I grew as a business owner I also began to understand that owning a business comes with challenges. I learned to embrace those challenges as learning opportunities and opportunities for growth. There are so many lessons to learn, but there are so many tools that can help you on your journey. You can use a book, a mentor, or another business owner even if they are not in your field. Many basic business principles apply to almost all businesses.

I want the world to know that I am a testimony to how one can beat the odds and you are not your circumstance.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week long trip we would have to go to the following restaurants

1. The House of Mac
2. The Big Pink
3. FingaLickin
4. Havana 1972
5. Joe’s Stone Crab
6 Red Fish Grill
7. Bar one

We would stay in a house on Miami Beach. We would need to hang out and spend some time relaxing by the beach. We would visit the Frost Museum, Top Golf, visiting South Beach and Hollywood Beach and definitely spend some time shopping. We have to go to Wet Willie’s to check out their signature drinks. We would wrap up the trip by spending the last two days out on a yacht riding around Miami Beach enjoying the weather and the views. We would bring a private chef on board so that they could make us food while we were on the yacht.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, my children and my close circle of friends. They have been here from day one and they continue to inspire me and push me beyond my comfort zone. I was a young mother and everything I did, I did it for my children. Looking at them and wanting the best for them always made me want to be better. I always want them to be proud of me and their pride keeps me going on the days when things are really tough! Last, but certainly not least, I have to give a super special shout out to my husband who believes in all of my ides, allows me my crazy, gives me space, and provides me with unwavering support.
