We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Garbutt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I don’t want to sound like a beauty pageant contestant, but I’m on a mission to spread happiness in the world. I’ve realized that when my surroundings are organized, my mind is at ease, and I can function at my best. Being organized not only increases efficiency but also boosts my inner peace. You know that feeling you get after you’ve cleaned your entire house and put everything in its place? Let’s normalize that! I started this business to bring this sense of peace to others’ homes. I love organizing, but my true passion lies in serving others, and my belief that organization can have a significant impact on mental health.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
As I mentioned earlier, I moved to Dallas a little over two years ago to pursue my dream. Being a new small business owner, I was always eager to grab every opportunity that came my way and actively participated in community events. After a year of hard work, The Container Store heard about about my business. When the director of In-Home Organizing approached me to work for them, I was over the moon. Working with TCS has been such a blessing. I am now The Container Stores’ organizing partner for all of Dallas & North Dallas.
The most important lesson I learned from this journey is to never give up. Initially, I had to work three jobs to make ends meet, and I had to complete every project by myself as I couldn’t afford to hire employees. Although it was challenging, I knew deep down that this was where I was meant to be.
What I’d like the world to know about the brand is that we prioritize integrity and compassion in every project. Hiring professional organizers can be an intimate process and we strive to ensure every client is comfortable and confident in having us in their home. More often than not, clients are somewhat embarrassed by the space they are seeking assistance with. It is my job to reassure them that this is a judgment-free zone.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Such a tough question for such a big city! There are so many unique places to experience in Dallas. I am a total nature lover and would take them on all the beautiful trails to get some vitamin D and fresh air. A tour de coffee shop would take place, followed by lunch on a patio with good vibes & music. There’s a place in Little Elm that I enjoy called Hidden Cove. I sometimes take my hammock and a book for some quality relaxation. Other times I bring a friend and go paddle boarding. I tend to find beauty all over the city, especially when establishments mix in the outdoors. Some of my favorite places are Tru Food in The Plaza at Preston Center, The Yard in Downtown McKinney, Didi’s Downtown in Frisco, and Houndstooth Cafe’ & Coffee Shop (any location).
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my journey, every experience and support from others has been a helping hand. If I were to give a shoutout, it would be to the man upstairs. My success was not a straight path and at times it was a bit blurry, but I knew that my plan was no match for the one already made for me. When I felt called to move to Dallas and start a business in a city where I knew no one, I was scared, to say the least. However, my faith helped me to persevere through times of doubt. When I think about where I started and where I am now, I am overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude. There’s no way I could have pictured the blessings I am experiencing now. So, to answer your question, it’s God who deserves the credit and recognition in my story.
