We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
I love this question because I’m an avid reader — and so are many of my clients. That’s one reason I keep a salon library, with good reads stacked around the fireplace in the historic living room of my renovated salon suite.

The book that’s currently impacting me is Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard. I find that whatever I’m reading at the moment tends to speak directly into the season I’m in, and this one is no exception. One of the key concepts it explores is that lasting change requires appealing to both logic and emotion. That idea really struck me — because that’s exactly what storytelling does. It engages the mind and moves the heart.

If we want to see more change in the world, we need to tell more stories. It’s a beautiful, powerful cycle — and one I hope to be part of.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So many great questions — I hardly know where to start. To answer whether it’s been easy getting to where I am today, I’ll give you a statistic: I’ve been doing hair professionally since 2010, and it’s estimated that only about 20% of cosmetology graduates make it that far in their career. So no, it hasn’t been easy. But it has been worth it.

Resilience has been key. You have to keep showing up, stay future-focused, and remember why you started. There was even a season where I stepped away from the salon and only did hair on the side. But even then, I found myself formulating other stylists’ color formulas and analyzing their haircuts. I couldn’t help it — I just love this craft.

That passion — or maybe obsession — is what sets me apart. I have an insatiable curiosity about hair. I’m always learning, always evolving. My clients know I stay ahead of the trends and always have a solution for every hair challenge.

A lot of stylists specialize in one thing, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But what makes me different is that I’ve spent seasons diving deep into different hair types and textures — mastering one, then moving on to the next. That range of experience gives me the confidence to serve anyone who walks through my door, and do it well.

As for my brand — at its core, I want to be a hope dealer. I want every client to leave not only with great hair, but with the confidence that they belong, they’re worthy, and they’re here to do amazing things. My goal isn’t just to create beautiful hair — it’s to help people see the beauty in themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, hands down — downtown McKinney. As a creative person, that’s the place to be. There are over 90 businesses on the square and more than 100 little hidden doors representing them. Its a real-life scavenger hunt, and every visit brings a new discovery.

I’d bring my friend along for our Friday night tradition: we put our name on the waitlist at Cadillac Pizza and then head over to The Cocktail Creamery for dessert before dinner. We play board games there until our table’s ready — it’s one of my favorite rituals.

We’d definitely spend a night at Stix Icehouse, letting the kids run free in the yard while we play music bingo — it’s laid-back and always a good time. I’d probably also take them down to Klyde Warren Park in Dallas to grab food truck eats and maybe catch a movie in the park.

And one last thing — I’ve always wanted to visit the JFK Museum. It’s something so many Dallasites haven’t done, myself included. But if I had a visitor in town, I’d finally make it happen. It’s such a fascinating piece of history right in our backyard.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely. Over the years, I’ve come to deeply understand the truth behind the phrase “no man is an island.”

The first person who comes to mind is a longtime client who’s been incredibly influential — not just in my career, but in my life. Early on, I didn’t have many healthy relationships or people who believed in me. I’ll never forget the first time I overheard her talking about me to someone else. She spoke as if I wasn’t even there, saying how I was working toward big goals — and not just dreaming about them, but actually achieving them.

She has this subtle way of weaving encouragement and belief into ordinary conversation — little prophecies, if you will. She saw something in me before I could see it in myself. Her steady belief in who I was becoming lifted my heart and made me want to live up to the version of me she already believed in.

Of course, there have been mentors, coaches, and educators who’ve supported me along the way. But if it weren’t for her planting that first seed of belief, I honestly don’t think I’d be where I am today. I’m forever grateful for that immeasurable gift — one I’ll never be able to repay.
