We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Howard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haley, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
You should know what you are doing and have experience and professional training in it, before you get started. Nope-at least not in my field, I had been a stay at home mom for 8 years, with no plans to go back to work. When I started my first job I pretty much followed the saying “fake it ’till you make it”. It was a very entry level position, however not like anything I had done before. I learned quickly, trained myself and asked many questions. (Including how to use a binder clip, but we won’t go into that one!) If I had not taken the job, I would never have ended up where I am now. The people I worked with taught me invaluable lessons. I succeeded very quickly and mostly for not being scared-I got out there, was personable and anytime I was asked if I could do something, I said “I’m on it”-and then figured it out if I didn’t know!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The interesting things about how I went from running a med spa, to owning a business, is that I didn’t really want to! I knew I wanted to change something so that I was able to spend more time with my 2 boys, but I never saw that as the answer. My business partner and co-owner of our company, Amber Betchold, met through the industry and within 2 months, we had somehow filed for an LLC and then came the whirlwind of learning how to build a business. What sets us apart and helped things fall into place, largely came down to the contact we have made over the years. Working in medical spas, I found that when a rep walked through the door, all employees-including the Practice Manager-would have a pressing work issue appear out of thin air and poof-they were nowhere to be found. I embraced those reps, cultivated good working relationships with them and showed them that I would give them the same amount of respect they would give me. This quickly gave me a reputation of someone they truly wanted to work and partner with. When they found out about our business endeavor, many of them reached out, met with us to see how they can be supportive and have been intricate parts in allowing us to offer certain aspects to our clients that other consultants cannot. I am a single mom of two amazing boys. These boys are the reason I took this huge leap of faith. Going from a steady paycheck to opening a business has been scary at times, but ultimately, God has given me the peace that I am doing the right thing and am on the path I am supposed to be. The performances, games, and random school lunch visits with my kids may seem small, but to me they are huge. This doesn’t mean I am now working less hours, or owning and running our business is a piece of cake-the opposite usually! The flexibility it has given me, however, is what I needed personally to feel I was giving my personal and professional life 100%.
Just a few common things you will see when looking into many of my work days: My business partner, Amber and I, decked out in heels, work pants and blazers to meet with clients, me in yoga pants, a tshirt and noise canceling headphones in the office part of my bedroom while 8 boys are running around the house due to a random school holiday, and then sometimes, sitting in a completely silent house, working on multiple projects for hours on end. I love what I do, and I love that I am able to do it on my terms while still knowing we are able to meet and exceed our clients needs and deliver big time results for them!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a Fort Worth girl and always will be! A few places on my list would be Joe T Garcia’s, a little pizza and wine place called Olivellas on Camp Bowie, shopping at Clearfork and taking them to my family’s ranch to target shoot and hunt!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Hands down, the Nurse Injector I began working for, was the one who showed me I could do so much more than I had ever really considered. Starting out as her front desk receptionist, she quickly began pulling me into other aspects of her business from taking over meetings with reps, to networking with local doctors and vendors. She took the time to sit down with me and really teach me the business side-the numbers. That was a game changer. Me-the same girl who was a self proclaimed math hater-became deeply interested in what a huge role numbers played in the success of our business. Ultimately, a large part of what I now do is asses our clients businesses, beginning with taking a deep dive into their numbers and setting them up for success starting there. I was extremely fortunate to start working at the office I did. It is a huge blessing when you are surrounded by people who truly care about you as a person and are invested in your success.
