We had the good fortune of connecting with H.j. The Barber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi H.j. The Barber, how do you think about risk?
Smaller the risk, means the smaller the reward. The bigger the risk, means the bigger the reward. In both elements you get what you put in it. Risk are vital to the progression of any craft. You have to sacrifice alot internally to really feel growth. And with taking risk you have nothing to gage your elevation. Thats my own personal theory.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a master barber with well over 13 years of experience in the hair industry. Ive witnessed and also have contributed to the transition and growth in it as well. My approach to the industry is quite different from some of my peers. Professionalism plays a vital role in the industry however i try to add the quality of the struggle and road to it. Alot of people are afraid to show the scars. I embrace them! That mentality birth a brand that I stand on -Reliable Quality Grooming- its the simplest way to put a dependable resource. With barber being essential, everything else falls in order. I feel it, My clients feel it, & The world will fill it as well…

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them threw Addison. Its a nice area to socialize and its a very blended area. Im also more of the bar/lounge type of guy. Those would be spots we would hit on random. With me making my own schedule we definitely would take time to go day bar hopping. Very spontaneous adventures with me!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1st and foremost I want to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ for allowing me to experience trials and tribulations to really stand in my calling. Without him there is no me so I had to make that clear! I also want to thank my mother for instilling in me a will to fight and persevere. That along has lead to so many different avenues that have helped along this journey. One particular book that encourage people to read is THE HUMAN MACHINE by Arnold Bennett, it will change your perspective on how you view life!
