We had the good fortune of connecting with Gummy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gummy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My whole thought process behind starting my own business was how can I build a successful platform for underground artists and creators that would give them a service to express their art and tell their story. How can I help underground artists and creators elevate themselves within their art and career. Whether that be me giving them a photoshoot, doing music videos, giving them interview or just simply giving them a place to showcase their music or art. As an underground artist myself, I believe having a reliable community to count on when you just want to be heard or seen is important to every artists whether mainstream or local.

What should our readers know about your business?
Gummy Illustrations is platform that offers multiple services for artists and creators of all kinds. Whether you do makeup, have your own small business, make music, host/promote shows, or even if you yourself is a photographer/videographer; Gummy Illustrations is a place you can come exhibit your art. I’m most excited about the showcasing side of Gummy Illustrations; which are the shows for artists because not only are just being invited to perform your music, or vend for your business but your invitation includes a photoshoot, a interview about who you are what you represent and also include promotion. So, not only does this help other artists but I guess you can say it’s helps myself grow within my art and creative styling. I can say you can get to where I am business-wise by asking yourself what am I doing that will uplift my audience and my supporters; what am I doing that would help someone else walk through their journey. Honestly, this is definitely not an easy process; the way I’m overcoming my challenging is by continuing to believe in myself when others have lost faith in me, because a lot of the times you can go into your business feeling motivated about your ideas and goals but you’ll have people in the background telling what you believe to happen for yourself isn’t achievable or it isn’t realistic and that’s where you honestly have to block out that negative because if they aren’t speaking to uplift you then it shouldn’t be heard or taken into consideration; sometimes you’re meant to hear or feel certain things just to be shown the truest form of someone you deem important or close to you. The one thing I really want the world to know about Gummy Illustrations is if you need something or someone that can help soothe the process what you’re creating however you need the help just know that I’m here; if you need a photoshoot come see Gummy, if you need a music video or a video-shoot for the models out there come see Gummy, if you need a performance slot for a show come see Gummy, if you just need promotion come see Gummy and understand that it’s affordable especially as an upcoming artist.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A few places I would take them is to some of the open mics that go on during the week, I would start in Dallas at Snookie’s Events and More with the Fronto Factory where they have their open mics and they also have movie night at the end of the night; plus Snookie’s have some bomb ass wings there. I would then go to Royal Lanes Wednesdays and Thursdays where they have own open mics on Wednesdays and The Underground Open Mic on Thursdays with Eli Smacks. For the weekend I would take them to whatever showcase is happening then, whether it be with the folks of Luna Nights, whether it be a show happening at Creators Don’t Die, or can be some big ass party that the Pixie Pound is throwing even then if I myself am having my own showcase then of course I’d bring her there too. Plus, not only am I just Gummy Illustrations but I make my own music as FVNKYTOWN so if I have show for myself with an organization then I’d bring them there. When comes to food, we’ll just about go anywhere; I’m not picky person so being from Texas, we can go from eating barbeque one day to eating tacos, or Asian foods the next, I think it just depends on where I our stomachs lead us to. Plus I love to go to the arcade and play pool so that would fit somewhere in the itinerary.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout The Fronto Factory, The Universal Chruch of Love and Music, and The Underground Open Mic.
