We had the good fortune of connecting with Gracie Howard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
People define success in many different ways. When we were kids, success looked like getting a good grade on a test, cleaning your room before a parent came in and told you to do it, or eating all of your veggies from dinner! I successfully finished grade school, successfully graduated high school and went to cosmetology school that same year! Even though you’re doing hair, school is still school. You still have to wake up in the morning, eat breakfast and make sure you get to school on time. There were days when I felt like not wanting to go or not even wanting to wake up, but because this is the career I wanted to do, I had to push myself to get up and get going.
I successfully graduated cosmo school in nine months and went on to my first salon.
When I was at my second salon, I successfully gained an amazing clientele! It felt so good when clients said they love their hair and would love to come back (and they did!)
Skip to 2022, I realized I was ready to take on my actual dream of owning my OWN suite! And that’s what I did! I moved on to owning my own little private suite, continuing to make people feel beautiful and confident with themselves. My parents really helped me with my suite too and I couldn’t be more thankful for them!
Now in 2023, I realized I am able to pay a weekly rent, monthly rent, and car payments in one month! I feel like that is success for me especially in this day and age!
Like I said earlier though, success is defined by many different people, but for me, I see it has something to be thankful for and reflect on what we have and don’t have as well. I am thankful for what I have, but I also need to remember to keep hustlin’ for what you want.
It’s okay to take breaks. There will be setbacks, but present day will end, and there will be a whole new day waiting for you!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I grew up in Frisco my whole life, so I’m going to be a little biased, but the Frisco area is a lot of fun! A lot of traffic, but still worth taking a day trip there! My next go to spot is Koreatown in Carrollton off of George Bush and Old Denton! The area is filled with amazing restaurants, beauty stores and fun stationary stores, (especially for my Kpop friends!) As a Kpop fan myself, both the mini Asia town in Frisco and Carrollton have taken so much money because of NCT! (My suite is filled with kpop posters, so I found another place to put them!)
Staying around Frisco, Plano and Richardson area was my go to though! Plano is huge and filled with so much stuff to do and EAT! There’s also Legacy West in between Frisco and Plano with tons of restaurants and stores!
The Denton area is fun too! Very artsy and unique! There’s beautiful murals in the square! Plus the Denton Square is very vibrant, which is cool!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The biggest shoutout I want to give is to my amazing parents! Since opening up my suite, they have been my number one fans! They have helped me so much, supporting and so much more! Honestly, not just about my business, but personally, the love, time, energy, support, encouragement, everything, has really shaped me in the way I am today!
