We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Randall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grace, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
One axiom that I have heard often, and have only recently come to question, is the idea to “trust the process”. Rather than trusting in the process, I believe that there is more value to be found in putting trust in yourself. In all aspects of life, there is little that we can control, and in a sense that is a beautiful and poignant part of life. But, when it comes to pursuing a passion or following a path, I think you have to put faith in yourself above all else. Following this mindset has given me greater self-awareness and allowed me to confront change more proactively. And I think there is something to be said about trusting yourself to take initiative even in the most uncertain circumstances.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I find inspiration everywhere, and have always had this innate fascination with color and texture. Over the years, I have cultivated this passion through various mediums including illustrations, fashion, and food. I find so much joy in the process of creating and am always searching for different ways of translating the beauty around me through my own lens. However, one of the biggest challenges that I have had to confront with this, is figuring out how to market myself. That’s where blogging becomes an important part of my story. My blog has enabled me to unite my passions in one place and build an identity around seemingly unrelated interests. It has allowed me to articulate my creative perspective through a visually cohesive narrative, and in turn has become a portfolio of my work. And ultimately, it was my blog and not my resume that earned me my role as a marketing coordinator, which I think speaks to the importance of investing in what you love, even when you don’t know where it will lead you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dallas is such a culturally-rich city, so it’s difficult to pack everything into one visit. But, if I had a friend in town, I would absolutely take them on a walk through Lakeside Park and grab a bite to eat nearby in Highland Park Village – most likely Bird Bakery (their chicken salad truly is the best). Weekend brunch at Le Bilboquet for sure one day too! I would also insist on taking them to the Dallas Museum of Art. It is such a well-curated museum and I love their European Art wing. For dinner, you can never go wrong with Il Bracco for their spicy gemelli pasta and the Plaza Salad. And, for an essential Tex-mex experience, the fajitas (and a Paloma) at Las Palmas would be a must. Lastly, because there is ALWAYS a musician in town, we would definitely have a concert to the itinerary!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mom, for always encouraging me to lean in to my passions. I am who I am today because of her unconditional love and counsel through each stage of life.
