We had the good fortune of connecting with Gladys Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gladys, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
To help create a fun place where dancers no matter their size could feel free to dance and create.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name was not always Groovin with Gladys it use to be “Lady Hip Hop” when I was a upcoming actress and professional dancer out in Hollywood, CA years ago where all of it first started. My first professional big gig was Black Eyed Peas music video “Hey Mama” and things kind of took off from there. The name Groovin with Gladys came from one of my old dance Directors when I was apart of a dance team called Mom Crew. I love teaching but my vibe is more like a oldies but goodies groove and she gave me the name I loved it and hung on to it. At the moment I have a plus size dance team I created in 2018 for curvy and plus size women called Curvy Queenz of Dallas. We are a non profit organization who make dance dreams come alive no matter what size you may be our motto is Dance has no size. We love volunteering and helping out in our community. I’m no where near where I wanna be when it comes to my career but I’m thankful for how far I’ve come and lessons I’ve learned along the way. I have had an amazing journey when it comes to dance and I have met so many wonderful people, dancers, artist and entrepreneurs. If you have dreams and if your a entrepreneur you have to have tough skin for the business, people won’t always get you, there will be some who don’t see your vision and that’s okay what’s for you is for you go out there and be the best version of yourself, make a difference and make your dreams come true big or small and just don’t give up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love going to Top Golf, Pinstacks and Little Elm park beach. There’s nothing like a movie at Studio movie grill.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Would like to thank my friends and family who have supported me on this dance journey and my dance team who push me to never give up they have made my visions and creativity for plus size and curvy dancers come true.
