We had the good fortune of connecting with Giovanna Joyner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Giovanna, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking plays a huge role in my life period not just in business. I took a risk in October 2020 when I decided to move 17hours away from home to Texas without knowing anyone here. I had only been to Texas once, which was only a few weeks before I packed up and moved to the DFW.
That one risk changed my whole outlook of life and drastically changed my life all together.
In December 2021 I graduated with my bachelors degree with minors in business administration and human services with the goal of working of working in the social work field. At the time I was the program director at a Residential Treatment Center for youth in foster care.
On April 7th, 2022 I had an epiphany and decided that I would be a full time entrepreneur and completely left my career behind and give my all into the finance field.
All my life all I knew was to get a college degree, get a good job, and retire at 62. I did not come from a family of college graduates or entrepreneurs. Matter of fact I am a 1st generation college graduate and only the 2nd full time entrepreneur in my family.
So when it comes to a risk, I am definitely going to take it because they just always seem to work in my favor each time!
What should our readers know about your business?
Joyner Financial Services is a financial firm which provides tax preparation for individuals & businesses (small & corporations), bookkeeping, notary services, as well as life insurance. When I first launched my business, I did offer credit repair services because prior to officially having a business, I was known for credit repair. I started credit repair for myself in 2019 and would always provide credit information to my Facebook friends.
Due to changes in the credit industry, I stopped offering credit repair services shortly after the official launch of my business. However, every day I still have individuals who reach out to me inquiring about credit repair services.
I know that right now it seems as though everyone is doing taxes so I made sure that my business stood out. Joyner Financial Services is a one stop shop for all things financial. The goal is to be able to assist small business owners and individuals make the most of their tax refund and in return ensure they are set up to be financial stable and to be able to break the wealth gap in the african american community.
Being in the finance industry is not easy at all because so many people do not understand and were never taught about finances let alone how to build wealth. I speak about life insurance because a lot of people don’t even think about life insurance until it’s too late. Or they don’t know about the living benefits where they can withdraw up to 90% of their benefit in the event of a serious or chronic illness. I love educating people about things they might have not known about whether they choose to go forth with my services or not.
What I would like for people to know about my story and my brand is that I was once just like them. I had no idea that tax refunds are really only for low income taxpayers, I did not understand why life insurance was so important and how the right policy will allow me to grow my money and then even loan myself money from it. I want people to understand that because I was once in their shoes I make sure that I provide them with as much assistance as I can to get them to a better situation. I want people to know that Joyner Financial Services will always operate in integrity and provide great and honest services to them and their families. We take pride in constantly learning, growing, and being your go to for all of your financial needs.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting I would have a whole itinerary planned for us.
We would go have drinks and eat appetizers at Boomerjacks in Arlington Heights on the first night because they have amazing green tea shots for cheap.
Kitchen and Koctails in Dallas on a Friday or Saturday is a vibe and I would not let my bestie leave without getting some of their delicious crab cakes and cotton candy drinks!
On a Sunday we would be at The Freemans for their poetry night and of course for a good cajun meal as well.
The Galleria Mall in Dallas would certainly get a few of our coins with their Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany & Co. stores.
When we do our fine dining night, it would be at either Perrys Steakhouse or Eddie V’s in Dallas.
I’m sure I am not even including the best of what the city offers but im still fairly new and these are just some of my most favorite spots.
