We had the good fortune of connecting with Gia Hulet-Duncan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Initially I was thinking “Am I making the right decision?” By giving up on my 8-5 and working strictly for myself… End result is yes! My husband, my kids & of course myself love the flexibility of my own schedule. I am able to attend my kids activities, maintain necessary household things & have dinner ready at a reasonable time everyday lol

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from everyone is just my talent. I am 38 years old and there’s plenty of younger women in the hair industry that is talented as well, however, my passion to do hair and make women, kids and even men feel good about the best crown they wear daily, makes me feel good! The challenge in the business is unfortunately you can’t satisfy everyone, Fortunately, I have only had 2 clients that claimed not to be satisfied AND that was AFTER they left my chair and said they were satisfied!

I want the world to know that my brand is authentic, and my husband & I thought of the name and the direction we want our business to go in together and even though I have a home salon right now, we will have a full service salon soon and then plan to open other locations in other cities thereafter!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I am actually planning a girls trip now! So Sunday is always Sunday Funday so we will attend a brunch then a hookah bar. Monday is chill day (we gotta recuperate lol). Tuesday is Tacos & Tequila so we will be at an authentic Mexican restaurant! Wednesday is hump day so likely we can go bowling and enjoy some wings! Then comes Thirsty Thursday essentially is ladies night as we will be kicking off our weekend Friday’s we freestyle so we can put on our cute dresses, fly heels and fly in the wind! Saturday’s we can go skate and jam to the music! I just like to have fun

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to shoutout my husband and my kids! Even I have been doing hair since 7th grade I haven’t had the support to complete my training/schooling to obtain my diploma so I can get my license until my husband came into my life! He held it down while I was in school. He supported me in every way possible! He was my listening ear when I needed to vent, cry and even study. He and my kids were more than patient with me when I was on edge when finals were coming up and when I graduated they let me know exactly how good it feels to complete something and I love and appreciate George (my husband) LaRon (my son) and E’Mani (my daughter) for that!
