We had the good fortune of connecting with Gerardo and Evelin Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gerardo and Evelin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being in the grocery retail business for 17 years, we were all cozy having that steady paycheck coming week after week. As with almost every business, it started with an idea. After talking to the Mrs, we decided to offer her delicious Pupusas at work and even offered them on Facebook Market place. While we were not known, we did ok but nothing to rave about. Then March 2020 hit, CORONA. As we all saw on the news, we all thought we had the job security if we showed up and did the job, nothing like a pandemic to hit you with reality. It was then an there that we decided to go ahead with full steam ahead. While our jobs were not affected by the pandemic, if anything it increased our work load working for the grocery industry. We sat down, created a menu, created a name and drew a potential logo that sat on a blackboard for about 8 months. We wanted to have something that was ours, Big or small, but OURS. Now 2 years later we are Cheros Latin Kitchen LLC.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Let’s start with the name Cheros. Cheros is the Salvadorean slang word for Friends. So your dinning at Friends Latin Kitchen. It takes a lot of commitment and determination to meet your goals, and not to mention a lot of trial and error. We’ve gone back to the drawing board many times over. We’re excited to start the new chapter in our business as we will now do this full time. I’m proud of what my wife Evelin and myself have accomplished. We’re so happy and excited to hear the words “we’ve been wanting to try you guys for a long time”. We want everyone to know that we pour our love and dedication into everything we do, and are extremely and forever grateful for everything all of our Cheros have done for us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well for sure it’s the night life in Deep Ellum. You can spend an entire week there and not be done. There is the mesmerizing Skyline to visit. We can’t forget the tour of America’s Team AT&T Stadium. I’d make sure they tried Cesar Reyes drinks Lokito Cokito, try our texas style BBQ from our food friends Smoke Dawgz and PincheSmokerz, Birria Tacos from Jazzys Tacos, Shrimp Tacos from Elys Micheladas y Mas, seafood from our seafood queen Vals Seafood Kitchen. I’d make sure they’d visit our entire vendor Family that we’ve met along in our journey.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, many people have had an effect on who we are today. Big shout out to Jose and Jazmin Lara owners of Jazzys Tacos, who introduced us to the world of pop up events, who guided us in the beginning. Many friendships that turned into vendor Family. PincheSmokerz, Elys Micheladas, Vals Seafood Kitchen, Ya Tu Sabes Radio, Tia Pipos, Avodroc, Samiiis Antojitos, Cesar Reyes, El Mercadito Dfw and last but definitely not least my Family. All the likes and shares and positive feed back, the support from everyone has made us to what we are today.
