We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabby Lecca and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabby, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started embroidering because of a drawing at an antique store (who doesn’t love exploring those rows and stacks of treasures?). I wanted to replicate these really cool letter designs to put in my room. I honestly don’t remember exactly why I chose the medium of a hoop, fabric, and embroidery floss, but here we are! Embroidering became a relaxing hobby during a hard time in college that just never ended. Suddenly, I had so many ideas for future projects, and I started making some hoops for my family. A few years later, I decided to turn my hobby into a side business. As of right now, my business is aimed to keep me doing something that I love and, hopefully, to bring people smiles when they see my artwork.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud of actually getting my businesses started. I mean, how many of us say “I need to do this one day” or “Next week I’ll get to this.” I had a goal last year to kick start my embroidery Instagram and Etsy shop and unlike so many other goals, I actually pulled through, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m super excited to find my specific brand. As a new embroiderer, I’m experimenting and finding my niche in the community. I follow so many amazing accounts that you can just tell that they know who they are as a business. I’m still finding mine, but it’s going to be a fun journey.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, I would first take them to my favorite breakfast spot in Denton, Loco Cafe. They have the best biscuits and coffee (which we’ll need to keep us energized for the day)! Other restaurants. I would want to take them to are Cane Rosso, Babes Fried Chicken, Boca 31, Fiori Italian Restaurant & Bar, and Torchy’s Tacos (a variety of what DFW has to offer). Then, for activities, I would take them thrifting to find some awesome Texas clothing (fav spot is Thrift City in Lewisville), downtown Grapevine or Mckinney to visit some fun small businesses, and the Dallas arboretum to walk around.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout: – my best friend, Rena (@renarockssss on insta), who encouraged me to embrace my inner grandma spirit! – my sister, Gina (@ginalecca.art on insta), who has always been by my side – my dad who introduced me to my favorite ways to consume art (Turner Classic Movies, books, and antique stores) – and all my other friends and family members who have showed nothing but support for my embroidering!
