Meet FunkyTown Fridge | Community Solidarity Fridge

We had the good fortune of connecting with FunkyTown Fridge and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi FunkyTown, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Fort Worth, Tx specifically the Stop Six neighborhood. My background and upbringing is a huge part of what got me here. I grew up watching my mother, grandmothers, and aunts take care of each other; and not just us as their children, but the entire neighborhood. My foundation growing up in Stop Six helped me to understand the power of people. That there is nothing we couldn’t do together to build each other up, and at the same time improving our quality of life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
FunkyTownFridge is a community solidarity refrigerator, a mutual-aid project in Fort Worth, Tx where fridges and pantries are placed in outdoor spaces and filled with food by the community.

ALL of our fridges are accessible 24/7 to everyone, no hoops to jump through, no questions asked.

Our network of community fridges enables FunkyTownFridge to connect food that maybe wasted to members of our community who need it. We are especially focused on placing fridges in areas suffering from Food Apartheid regions where fresh and nutritious food is not accessible due to systemic inequality. By contributing to FunkyTownFridge our #FridgeHive Community takes part in alleviating hunger in our most vulnerable neighborhoods.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to cinnaholic one of the best cinnamon rolls in the world.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to the people of Fort Worth, Tx and beyond who are helping FunkyTownFridge to grow as organization more than a community fridge but an impactful way to create change for a better world. I would like to dedicate this shout out to all my family, my friends, and church members. To my entire village and community I thank you.
