We had the good fortune of connecting with Francesca Franzinu Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Francesca Franzinu, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision I made was back in 2010 when I left my home country of Italy to come to Texas. I was 22 at the time and had no idea it was going to be a permanent move. I originally came to Texas to attend a flight school in Arlington and there I met a mechanic that became my husband.
Back in Italy we took English in school but it was very limited and not like the English spoke here. On top of having to learn a new language, I also had to adapt to a totally different culture. This combo was hard!
I was very fortunate to be surrounded by Italians attending the same flight school that were either facing the same obstacles I was or Italians that had been in Texas for a while that could help me navigate this new culture. After meeting my husbands family, they were very patient with my broken English and took me in as their daughter. Don’t get me wrong, I still missed my family but it was nice having one in Texas too.
It’s been 12 years and my English is still not perfect and my accent is still strong, but I have come so far and at least there is a good chance I can put a smile on someone’s face while trying to hold a conversation in English.
I’m from an island off of Italy and we have no boundaries, everyone knows everyone and if you’re a newbie, you won’t be for long. When we meet someone for the first time, it’s not just an handshake, it’s a handshake, a double kiss on the cheek, and sometimes even a hug! I learned pretty quickly you get some pretty weird looks around here if you pull a stranger in for a kiss on the check upon meeting them for the first time!
I have learned a lot and been able to adapt to my new home but it will never get any easier being away from my family. I try to see them at least once a year but since having my daughter 6 years ago it has become even more difficult, especially for them. I wouldn’t change anything about this journey I have been on, it has made me who I am, and made me stronger as a person.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have found that social media marketing is not just about advertising your business, people want to know the person they work with. My goal is to not only share what my client offers but also my client. I want to make sure that my client business has a face to it and their clients know who they are really working with.
I have been happily surprise at how fast my business has grown and continues to grow, in a short amount of time I have grown my clientele exponentially.
I have been blessed to have great clients that trust me enough to refer my work.
Hard work really does pay off.
One thing I have noticed starting this business is everyone thinks they can do it and it is easy. I have worked really hard to set myself apart and to help people understand how beneficial I can be to their business.
Again, it’s about the face behind the business not just the business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Texas is a great state as a whole but I think Granbury is a hidden gem. They have things to do for all ages like boating, swimming, shopping, plays, hiking trails and great restaurants. Downtown Granbury has lots of character, it is filled with boutiques, cafe’s, and all kinds of different foods. The top restaurants on my list include Stumpy’s, you can enjoy sitting on there patio over looking the lake and drinking a ice cold beer, Ketzler’s Schnitzel Haus on the square feels like you are really sitting in Germany eating authentic German food. There is to many restaurants to name individually but Christina’s Bistro and The Fillin’ Station are on my list as well. Granbury almost always has some kind of festival going on during the weekends wether it be a wine festival, an art festival, or live music. Granbury feels like a home away from home.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been very fortunate having a very good support system from my family back in Italy and my new family here in Texas. My family in Italy has pushed me to succeed in everything I do in Texas to make the move worth it to not only me but them and my daughter. My Texas family has helped me in coping with the lifestyle changes and pushing me to achieve the American dream. There is a book I read called “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne that explains how thoughts can change your life directly. After reading this book I was able to be more conscious about how my thought process works and what I want out of life and business. I want to shoutout my sister in law Cassiana Hall, we encourage each other to push each other to succeed and see the potential in one another to grow our businesses. Like me, she has started her own business and faces some of the same challenges I do. I also wanted to shoutout Francis Krebs, she had enough faith in me to become my very first client, because of her it has given me more opportunities to grow my business and pick up more clients.
