We had the good fortune of connecting with Felicia Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Felicia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, only half of my decision to start a business was thought out. The other half was intuition. I had been working full-time in higher education for many years and I was unhappy, unhealthy, and really stressed out. Then my grandmother died, and it really took a toll on me. But, it got me thinking more about how short our time is and about the life I really wanted for myself. I wanted more time with my family, more freedom, more money, and more peace. The idea was so exciting that I immediately started taking on photography jobs after work and on the weekends. Luckily, I had been shooting for years, building relationships, and things just sort of took off for me. Everything around me was telling me that it was time to start taking my art seriously and pursue photography full-time. So, I took the leap and quit my full-time job to pursue my dream full-time.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I first started my business, I didn’t know anything about social media, branding, marketing, or sales. So, in my first two years I was taking a lot of classes. It quickly became very clear to me that I had a passion for business and social media. And, I loved talking about it! So, I started teaching other women business owners that I knew were struggling in those areas. I focused on helping them get clear on their branding, setting goals, and developing branding strategies. When I realized I was helping these women, not just to build the businesses of their dreams but the lives they have always wanted- I was hooked. I re-branded my business and focused on brand photography for passionate businesswomen and I haven’t regretted it for one second.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Coffee at Berni Bean Coffee Company, Yoga at Kopal Studio, Treat ourselves at CocoAndre Chocolatier and Horchateria, Lunch at Jeng Chi, Dinner at Dakota’s Steakhouse, Hang out at North Park Mall, Go for a hike at Cedar Ridge Nature Reserve, and music at The Free Man.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Vannessa Lee Reyes, my mindset coach. Starting my business was only the first step. Before I met Vannessa, I was struggling to learn social media, struggling to find a tribe, to find my voice, and struggling to understand my true value. After I started working with her, it changed the whole game for me. She helped me to strengthen my mindset, become more confident, and gain a deeper understanding of my purpose and value.
