We had the good fortune of connecting with Evan Romrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evan, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor to myself and my “brand” is authenticity. As long as I produce something it will be an extension of myself and my thoughts. I would never do something without questioning the authenticity of myself and how it is shown through my work. Whether it’s a tattoo or design. It has to be original, and if the idea stems from someone else give credit where it’s due.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Nothing is easy when you’re trying to make a living from art. No matter the platform or medium it will be a struggle. I worked quietly on my craft drawing and preparing my style of drawing to emulate tattoos for ten years. I was everything from broke and homeless to thriving and addicted to painkillers and cocaine. Eventually I crashed and went to rehab. Cleaned up and regained focus on my goals in life. But in that struggle, under that pressure you will learn to thrive and if you can deliver and come out of the other side to “make a living,” every day will feel like Christmas Day. You get to do what you love and not a lot of people can say that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Of all the places in all of DFW. I have to say that I have never felt more at home than on Magnolia Street in Fort Worth. I am fortunate enough to live in the Faormount neighborhood and you could probably spend an entire week going up and down that street and hit somewhere new every day and still have the other side of the street to explore next time. If I could direct anyone intentionally I’d say to check out Heim BBQ for their bacon burnt ends. They sell out for a reason!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Organization. The h817 (hate one seven) is a skate crew my friends and I started stemming from the area code and at the time our “hatred” for the area we came from. That quickly bonded us together and gave us a reason to get together and create something incredible. A family.
