We had the good fortune of connecting with Essence Quigley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Essence, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a young, African-American, I thought it was important to create generational wealth. I’m an eighteen year old, freshman in college, but I decided to start creating success for myself early in life. My business is a way for me to create stories through my art and content creation. Especially through my videos, I get to tell stories that are unheard and deal with perspectives that are rarely seen.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art always tell a story. Whether its about different perspectives of humanity or reflecting on the world we live in. My art weaves together creativity and reality. I’m most proud of starting the business at a young age even while navigating high school and adolescence. I got to where I am today by being reasonably consistent, maintaining my interest, and investing in myself. I hope the continued dedication will help guide me towards where I want my business to go. I learned about how to start up a business and that success isn’t a concrete idea, it’s what you make it. I learn everyday to be patient with the progress of my business and to have faith in myself. I want the world to know that although I’m new and emerging, there are more great things I have planned and that this is only the beginning for me. I have so much more to share and give to the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the Fort Worth zoo and the Sea Life Aquarium in Grapevine because I just love animals. I think they’re really fascinating especially octopi. My favorite food spots are Kokee Tea in the Fort Worth Hulen Mall and Oni Ramen on 7th street.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without my mom, I would’ve never been inspired to even own a business. Seeing her take a risk even as a single mom with two kids, gave me hope that I can accomplish whatever I want despite the obstacles. She also has mentored me every step of the way with the ideas of the business, the financial side, and even just pushing me to continue. Without her, I have no idea where I’d be or who I would be.
