Meet Erika Starks | Principal Baker & Owner of Kreamies Kookies

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Starks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erika, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Me starting my own business came about by my passion for my family and a love for cooking. For a long time, I’ve used food to show love to those around me.

One day, while on maternity leave, I decided to make my husband a batch of cookies. He liked them so much, he convinced me to start a company selling them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think that I’m drawn to the art of cooking for two reasons. One being that it has an open ended format. I think I’m a person that gets bored very easily, and so cooking always allows me an outlet for change. I can make the same dish a million times, and it never will be exactly the same based on the spices and technique I use. The second reason I’m drawn to cooking and baking is for the manner in which it allows me to relate to people. Cooking allows me the chance to implant myself into peoples’ lives. It allows me to gather glimpses of their joy in a rare way.

I think I overcome challenges in the business everyday by admitting that I know nothing. Whether it be about social media, marketing, customer relation, etc. Once I admit that to myself. I think that I free myself to obtain more knowledge in that area.

I want people to know the story of my brand. The story if simply, showing people God’s love through the gift of food.
