We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Persistence is key! We have all heard the saying “success does not occur in one night”. The key to persistence is to set goals and tirelessly pursue every goal, even when things become difficult. Persistence ensures results regardless of the time it takes. During this period, we learn to strategically analyze the results and make changes based on what doesn’t work.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own and operate a lucrative at-home bakery, and in my spare time I am a business advisor for independent entrepreneurs.
When I graduated from The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, I immediately went on to graduate studies while working for a fortune 500 business. Working for AT&T for nine years before making the decision to take my career seriously. I felt stagnated in the same position and knew I had more to offer. I simultaneously developed my professional career and developed my at-home bakery. I’ve always been proud of multitasking, so I launched a unique gourmet bakery that caters to special events.
Running a small business and having a full-time career is not easy. It is here that persistence comes into play. I took everything I learned from business school and applied my educational studies to my business. Thanks to the knowledge and expertise I have acquired, I have been able to earn the trust of my clients and gain more each year. I’ve learned to feel confident about taking risks. I completely changed my brand during the pandemic. I took SIALife (see YA) to the next level. I’ve redesigned the logo, colors, and menu to target a premium audience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Little Elm Lake Front features a picnic area, sand volleyball and electric scooters. We will bring our tents for a little shade, and enjoy the sunset.
We will spend time in Uptown and Legacy West where we can enjoy several restaurants and bars throughout the week. I will take my guest shopping at The Galleria Mall, North Park, and Allen Outlet.
Weekend Cheers: Food Truck Friday in Clyde Warren Park is an experience for everyone to enjoy. Bring your picnic and football gear where you can enjoy grass-based activities.
We will take a ride on the Blue Goose at Sam’s Dock in Grapevine. This lake front has boats which you can rent and spend 4 hours on the lake. You can bring your own food and DJ for the enjoyment of the ride.
Sunday Funday: My visitors can’t experience Dallas without visiting the Cowboys’ Arena in Frisco.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to recognize the Alpha Rho chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Joining this organization changed my life, it taught me more than sisterhood. It taught me agility, resilience, and mental toughness. Being a college student is the first real experience of adulthood, and the construction of this corporation is hugely important. Everything I learned paved the way for me positively, in my personal and professional life.
