We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Meyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had spent so much time and energy working for other people that I had thought the time and energy spent working would be better spent working for myself and chasing the things that I thought were valuable. It always seemed like the companies I worked for didn’t value the people that made them successful and because I felt devalued as an employee I wanted to make that change at my business and let those that helped elevate the business know that they are valued.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the things that sets me apart from others is my background in Radiology. I did X-Ray, Cat Scans, MRI, taught MRI for General Electric and I taught breast cancer detection software to Radiologists for Confirma.
As far as things that I am most proud of, I would say bringing the studio (multimedia production facility) to completion from the ground up.
None of what I have done or accomplished has been easy and frequently I worried most of the time bringing the building to life.
The way I overcame challenges was simply working at everything a little bit each day. Once one task was completed then I moved on to the next one.
Lessons that I have learned along the way include that without family and friends life is much more difficult, always give credit where credit is due, I do not want to be the king of anything because life is much more enjoyable when you have people to share the success with and you can never say thank you enough to those that lend a helping hand and stand in your corner.
If there was anything that might be noteworthy about me is that I place a great deal of value on my word. I also like to be around forward thinkers and those that see the world a bit differently than others. One other thing is I am always looking to learn something from someone so I work hard to see everyone with the potential to teach me something.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends come to visit, they are typically from other countries such as Norway, Italy and France and so I like to give them as much Texas hospitality as I can in a short period of time. Places that I will typically take them to eat is 600 Degrees Pizza, Torchy’s Tacos, Hopdoddy’s, Louie Mueller’s BBQ just to name a few. I will show people around Georgetown since it has a vintage vibe to it. As for interesting people to introduce them to it includes the people that helped build the studio because everyone simply enjoys spending time with people because people are both the best part of a day and the most important part of every day.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The truth of the matter is I have a very long list of people that I owe thanks and gratitude to for their support and belief in me and my goals. I would like to give shout outs to:
Angelica Meyer for her never ending support and her ability to be monumentally patient with me.
Larry and Paula Meyer for always standing in my corner and always being willing to get involved.
Dave Del Valle for designing and building the studio.
Anthony Rodriguez and Marc Nirenberg for their steadfast support and help building the studio.
Pat Devaney for educating me on pro audio gear and for building gear.
Randy Pekinto for designing and helping build the studio furniture and tuning the control room.
Glen Heffner for believing in me and for his advice in bringing the studio to life.
Vanguard Audio Labs for believing in me when everyone else around me told me that I can’t achieve the goals that I set out to accomplish.
Hotone Audio for supporting me when everyone else around me told me that I can’t achieve the goals I set out to accomplish.
Demetrio Scopelliti and Gianluca Ferro for taking a chance on me when they first came to visit the studio and do some recording.
