We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Birdine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success I believe is serving others! I truly believe what you make happen for others, God will make happen for you. Key part to serving is definitely serving without “motives” or “how I will benefit”. I believe serving others with a pure heart yields success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My humble beginning began at a very early age, serving in the music ministry at my home church Fellowship Missionary BC under the leadership of Pastor D. Evans. I had the spiritual and musical example from my grandfather, Dewitt Booker Sr. who also was a singer and choir director. Here is where I was given my first exposure and opportunity with music ministry. It was a time of learning and development. During my high school years, I was a part of various community choirs and groups. It was in 1994 when I was exposed to the professional side of the gospel music industry when I joined Voices of Power under the direction of DeMarcus and Myron Williams (the current COGIC National Music Department President). Our first professional recording as a choir was with the late and great Patrick Henderson! This set us on our path to record several recordings of our own as MDM and Voices. It was later in my music career that I began my own ministry, Eric Birdine and The Messengers! In 2006, when the GMWA Convention was in Dallas is when the ministry of Eric Birdine and The Messengers was birthed. I was given the task to assemble some singers for a major artist coming in for the GMWA convention. After this opportunity, this set us on the path to birth the ministry. Eric Birdine and the Messengers has been blessed to release two CDs, The Message Vol. I – High Praise and The Message Vol.2 – Bless His Name, which debuted in the top 5 on the Billboard charts. I also released a solo single, “It’s In My Praise” in 2022 that also made it to the top 15 on the Billboard charts. I also had the opportunity to write and record “We Praise You” with the GMWA Delaware Chapter, which made it to the top 50 on the Billboard charts. God expanded my ministry reach by allowing a song which was written by me to be featured in the hit Bounce TV Series “Saints and Sinners” led by the legendary Kelly Price.

God has given me the opportunity to minister and share the stage with some of the most incomparable artists such as Kirk Franklin, Tamela Mann,Myron Butler, Jonathan Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Karen Clark-Sheard, Sherri Jones-Moffett, Kim Burrell, Chrystal Rucker, Kelontae Gavin, Michael Lampkin, Trace Atkins, Beverly Crawford, and Prophet Gary Sprewell, to name a few.

I’ve received several awards but recently I received the “Torchbearer Award” from the GMWA Dallas Chapter organization and was presented a “Hall of Fame Honoree” Award at the 15th Annual Rhythm of Gospel Awards show last year.

It hasn’t always been easy but I believe it’s been worth the journey.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends come in town or we’re hanging out, we’re most definitely going to grab some great food and since I’m a big kid at heart also we’re going to hit up some type of amusement park. Whether that’s Six Flags, bowling, indoor golf, etc. I love doing anything that allows us to unwind and enjoy ourselves.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout Mrs. Johnson who recommended me for this great opportunity/interview. And I must shoutout my mom, Versie Pruitt, my entire family, village and support system that has supported me for many, many years!
