Meet Egheosa Edomwonyi | Certified Public Accountant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Egheosa Edomwonyi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Egheosa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The decision to start my own business was born out of two core motivations, sustainability and independence. In a world that often glorifies the “9 to 5” lifestyle, it’s easy to overlook the personal sacrifices that come with it. While it’s true that countless individuals throughout history have made significant contributions to society from behind a desk, for me, the traditional path proved to be a stumbling block rather than a steppingstone. My journey into entrepreneurship wasn’t planned. On March 6th, 2020, I was unexpectedly fired from my position as a Senior Analyst in Corporate Finance. The dismissal was abrupt and came as a complete shock. It was a moment that shifted my entire perspective on career and financial security. The loss of steady employment thrust me into a period of uncertainty, both financially and emotionally. Determined to regain my footing, I spent the next three months searching tirelessly for gainful employment. Despite my relentless efforts, opportunities were scarce, and the bills continued to pile up. To make matters more challenging, I became embroiled in a contentious battle for unemployment compensation with my previous employer, which added a layer of stress to an already difficult situation. During this transitional period, I took on various jobs to stay afloat. I worked as a courier for Postmates, delivering meals and goods around Dallas Texas and helped a friend with his moving company, handling furniture moves and deliveries. These experiences, though far removed from my previous corporate role, taught me the value of adaptability and resourcefulness. The challenges I faced during those months forced me to reevaluate my definition of success. I realized that true fulfillment comes from aligning one’s work with personal values and goals. For me, that meant building something sustainable, both for myself and the community and maintaining independence. Looking back, being let go of my corporate position was a blessing in disguise. It propelled me to take ownership of my career and pursue a path defined by purpose and autonomy. While the “9 to 5” grind works for some, my experience taught me that forging your own dreams and goals, despite things in and out of our control, can lead to a more meaningful and sustainable future.

What should our readers know about your business?
Edom & Co. CPAs is more than an accounting and tax practice. It is a partner in growth and transformation. Serving businesses and individuals with integrity, speed, and expertise, we have grown into a reputable Client Advisory Services company. Our journey has been shaped by a drive for quality, a commitment to our clients’ success, and a vision that goes beyond numbers. At Edom & Co. CPAs, we believe that every client deserves not just accurate financial statements, but strategic guidance that empowers them to reach their potential. What truly distinguishes us is our service philosophy. We blend deep technical knowledge with a genuine understanding of our clients’ needs. Our personnel are responsive, proactive, and always ready to provide solutions that meet our clients’ goals. We pride ourselves on delivering results quickly without compromising on quality. My proudest achievements are reflected in the growth of the clients and the trust they place in the company. We’ve helped thriving enterprises with Tax Compliance and Accounting Services while supporting established businesses through various transitions of Tax Planning and Payroll Management. Each success story, each long-standing relationship, and each moment when a client realizes their vision with our support is a testament to our impact. These milestones are not just wins for me or my team, they are shared wins with the people and organizations we serve. Starting as a traditional CPA firm, I recognized the evolving needs of clients and steered the company toward Client Advisory Services. This evolution meant expanding our offerings to include strategic consulting, aided by the early adoption of AI, and tailored business advisory. By listening to our clients and adapting to change, we have grown from humble beginnings to become a company that leads with innovation and care. Like any journey worth taking, ours has had its share of obstacles. The fast-changing landscape of finance, regulatory shifts, and the pressures of scaling a business all tested and continually challenge my resolve. I helped my team and me overcome these challenges by fostering a culture of learning and agility. When times were tough, I leaned on collaboration and open communication, both within the company, and with external advisors. Every challenge was an opportunity to reaffirm commitment to excellence and to strengthen the bonds that define our company. I often share one central lesson, success comes from serving others with authenticity and courage. Leadership isn’t about having all the answers, but about listening, adapting, and helping those around you shine or progress. Put people in position to win. I learned that embracing change, valuing each team member’s perspective, and always putting the client first leads to sustainable growth. Mistakes became moments for learning, and every step forward was guided by core values of integrity, respect, and service, things I learned as a division one college basketball player. Edom & Co. CPAs stands for more than financial expertise. We stand for partnership, trust, and empowerment. Our brand is built on the belief that businesses and individuals can achieve extraordinary things when supported by a team that genuinely cares. We invite you to experience our commitment firsthand, to join us in creating new success stories, and to be part of a community where your goals are our top priority. As I look to the future, our vision is clear. We will continue growing, innovating, and serving with excellence. We are excited to embrace new technologies, expand our advisory services, and deepen our relationships with clients and partners. Edom & Co. CPAs welcomes you to join us on this journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, which locations would I choose to show them? That’s a great question. For the first day, I’d want to make sure my friend gets a feel for Dallas’s history and its modern vibe. We’d start with a bit of a somber but very important piece of history at the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. It’s an incredibly powerful experience that really walks you through a pivotal moment in American history. From there, we could take a short walk to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza for a moment of quiet reflection. Our office location also happens to be adjacent to the JFK Memorial Plaza. After that, to transition to the modern Dallas, we’d head over to Klyde Warren Park. It’s a beautiful, lively urban park built over a freeway, and it’s the perfect place to just sit, observe Dallas locals, maybe grab a coffee or a bite from one of the food trucks, and enjoy the beautiful weather. For dinner, I’d suggest The Mexican in the Design District. It’s a really elegant and vibrant place with incredible food. The atmosphere is just as exciting as the menu, making it a great way to cap off the first day.
Throughout the week, I’d also recommend the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. It’s a beautiful garden with a ton of different floral designs and styles. For a fun night out, I’d suggest Akai, a hidden speakeasy located within the Asian fusion restaurant Musume. It’s an exciting find and a great place to hang out. If we’re feeling competitive, Andretti Indoor Karting & Games offers some really fun and thrilling competition. As an honorable mention, a visit to Louis Tussaud’s Wax Works Museum can be a fun and quirky way to spend an afternoon.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When reflecting on my journey, there are several sources of inspiration, guidance, and unwavering support that deserve recognition. This shoutout is for those who have shaped my path, motivated me to strive for excellence, and instilled in me the values and wisdom that continue to guide my life. The book that stands out as a pivotal source of motivation for me is “Getting There: A Book of Mentors” by Gillian Zoe Segal. In this collection, prominent leaders from diverse fields, such as Warren Buffet, Leslie Moonves and Jim Koch, open up about their journeys, sharing the secrets, setbacks, and highlights that shaped their rise to the top. In as few as 10 to 20 pages per story, the reader is treated to honest, direct, and engaging accounts of hurdles cleared and lessons learned. The advice provided is not only practical for business development and career advancement but also imbued with wisdom that is relevant to everyday life. This book has served as a north star, reminding me that perseverance, resilience, and integrity are the cornerstones of success, no matter what the field or ambition. Beyond the pages of inspiring books, my greatest mentors have been my parents and grandparents. Their lives are testaments to success achieved through both kind and unkind circumstances. Born in Nigeria, I was brought to the United States by my parents in 1999, and by 2001, they ensured I received my U.S. citizenship. Their sacrifices and vision for a better future empowered my siblings and me to work diligently, pursue a sound American education, and contribute positively to our communities. Their encouragement instilled in me a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility, shaping the foundation of my character and aspirations. In every story of small or big achievement, there are those whose influence is woven into the fabric of success. “Getting There: A Book of Mentors” illuminated my path, while my predecessors provided the support and encouragement necessary to walk it.
