We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Keila Nichols, DC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Keila, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
As a sole proprietor chiropractor, my success strategy was built around the following committments:
1. Be the very best in my field. Try and out-do every chiropractor out there. Find solutions for every patient.
2. Give more for less. Spend more time with each patient and charge a little less than the other doctors.
3. Love every patient – and make sure they know they are loved for who they are.
4. Listen to my patients and realize sometimes they know more than I do. Be willing to learn from them.
5. Pray for my patients and for my skills, knowledge and success. And trust God to respond with the best outcome, no matter how that looks.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It’s very interesting how I got to where I am. Like I said, I was just thirsty to learn about natural health and the body’s functions. I started my own practice after getting my doctorate in chiropractic and was instantly busy. After the first year and a half I had to bring on another chiropractor to help with the overflow. I am not sure why, other than my love and commitment to finding solutions for my patients. After 3 years, I quadrupled the size of my clinic, added on 3 other chiropractors, an accupucturist, a homeopath, a couple massage therapists and a medical research team. The day after I signed all the lease aggreements and contracts, I found out I was pregnant with my first child. All my dreams were coming true at the same time, but not as I would have planned it! 9 months later, we opened the doors of the new clinic, and the next day, my first baby girl was born. Three years later, my second child was born. I had a nursery and a nanny at the clinic. which seemed like an excellent situation for the modern doctor-mom that I was. However, I found I was giving my best to my patients, and my family was getting the scraps. One day, God told me to go home and raise my family. I thought “who is going to want to buy this big burdensome dream of mine?” Within the week, one of the doctors in my clinic said if I ever wanted to sell this practice, he would be interested in buying it. Well, God was definitely directing the course of that ship! I sold my practice and took a few “affectionate cling-on” patients with me to a part time practice in my home. I had 2 more children, homeschooled them in the day and saw patients in the evening. I felt God saying ” I gave you your dream; now try mine.” I loved being at home and practicing out of my home around my family. As they got older, I allowed my practice to grow again. I never went back in to a separate location for my practice. The front of my home is still a clinic. It’s so great! I just go downstairs to work! And being a workaholic allows me to work all I want, LOL!! My kids are now adults. My son is a chiropractor – its’ in his DNA and his subconcious mind as he was always around it. It’s so natural for him. As my hands have gotten tired after almost 40 years, he now sees the adults and I can focus on infant cranial work, publishing research and – soon – training other chiropractors how to get the results I enjoy. It’s so fun working alongside my son! It’s like having adult play dates together! God’s perfect timing and perfect solution!
AND ALSO, as I sought out natural alternatives for my patients and family, I discovered homeopathy and nutrition and other natural alternatives. As my passion is to help families find alternatives to drugs and their side-effects, I began teaching classes in homeopathy. I have been doing this for years and their popularity has grown leaps and bounds. My classes were originally targeting Moms, but my classes are now attended by doctor’s of every field, nurses, nurse practitioners, vets, therapists, dentists, chiropractors, teens, Grandparents, Dads AND Moms! Apparently, there is a large population wanting to learn more about natural alternatives!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite thing to do without a doubt is swing dancing. i am often found at Dallas Swing Dance Society at Sammons Center for the Arts every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Saturday nights. They provide free lessons with admission and a night of dancing. Dance ettiquette is commonly that the leads (generally men) go around and ask different women to dance throughout the evening, so no need to bring a dance partner. I say it’s my oxygen for the week. I spend long hours all week in my left brain, but on Saturday nights my right brain gets to come out and dance!! Nova Cafe is also a fun place to go for Sunday brunch and listen to live music and have a few dances!
And then there are my kids and THE GRANDKIDS – OH THE FUN!!! I am blessed to have a wonderful relationship with the best humans on the planet!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out goes to God! He knew my unique gifts and talents and passions, before I ever suspected them. I can now see that every step along this path has been purposeful. I never would have thought I would be a published, sought-out doctor. I just followed the bread crumbs along the path. First I had health issues and discovered alternative health and nutrition. Then I decided I wanted to study health and anatomy and physiology on a grander scale and determined a chiropractic degree gave the best education in that field of all 3 options (D.O., D.C., M.D.). I came acroos incredible mentors and educators and post-graduate training that inspired me to learn more and be excellent in my pursuits. My patients’ needs challenged me to find solutions for difficult cases. I had always loved cranial work and found infant cranial especially rewarding as it kept babies out of those miserable helmets/bands. I now am a sought-out expert in the field of infant cranial. I just followed the bread crumbs! I had no idea where they were leading, but God certainly did.
