We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Josh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr., do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Success can be achieved in different ways. For me, I believe different habits led me to have a successful business. The foundation for my success, which may be more of a mindset, is being passionate about what I do. Since I was a little kid, I have always known I wanted to be a veterinarian because I love helping animals and their human families. A habit that I am very proud of is that I will always work very hard to achieve my goals. This does mean that many sacrifices will need to be made, but I believe success cannot be achieved without sacrifices. Another habit is that I am a perfectionist and overachiever, so I am always looking to improve what I am doing in order to offer the best service I can. I also consider I am truly caring of the people around me, which translates into people wanting to come back to experience that honest interaction with me. Above all, I believe that we should never settle or stop caring because then our success will become part of our past.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My Isla Veterinary Boutique Hospital sets itself apart from other hospital and clinics because we always seek to go the extra mile for our clients and patients. We always want to make sure everyone feels and knows they are part of a family that is there for them. I am very proud that in less than three years since we opened, we have won four “Best Veterinarian” awards. In order to get to where I am at, it has required many sleepless nights, sacrifices, and exhausting days. On top of that, being gay and having my family reject me while going through the challenge of building my hospital and legacy has made this journey even more challenging. However, my passion for what I do and my determination to move forward in life has helped me continue to fight every day. I have learned that no matter what challenges I may encounter, I will always remind myself of why I have made it this far: I want to change as many lives as I can. I want the world to know that being kind and caring should fuel our desires and goals. We should strive to have a better world, even when it may feel like the world is falling apart. We should never give up!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love having my friends explore the food scene with me and visit the best dessert places around. There are too many good places in DFW!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My team deserves recognition for being there for me and our patients and clients.
