We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Hector Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Hector, how do you define success?
I would describe success this way- Success is when someone is living life to their full ability and maxing out their full potential on the things they were designed to do. Success does not necessarily mean fame and fortune in my perspective. For myself, success is living a God-centered life, taking good care of my wife and kids, and thriving as a professional/entrepreneur, and leaving a legacy that long outlives me. I believe everyone has their own individual job to do while on this earth, and as long as you are living in your calling, I would call that success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am proud to be the first person in my family to graduate from a University. I was not your typical college student, who fresh out of high school goes straight into college. I was 23 years old with a 5 year old daughter when I made the choice to attain higher education. I worked full time and went to school full time, and mostly keeping straight A’s. Was on the President’s list and Dean’s in that time. I had made up my mind. I decided to make a life for myself and in doing so, raised the bar for my family and those around me. I have faced many challenges from childhood and into adulthood that could give me every excuse to pity myself and never accomplish anything. Today I am an entrepreneur, and a chiropractor by profession. My brand THE MSK ROOM, was founded in 2020 (year of the Covid), Yes we opened a business during a pandemic, and have recently won the title of Best of Denton 2021- in Chiropractic. I want people to know that we represent a place that people can get well and achieve their greatest potential by living their best life with their body functioning at its greatest capacity. And also we represent a brand of grit and perseverance, run by people who have overcome life’s greatest challenges, and stared failure in the face, and gave it the Rocky Balboa uppercut.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Food: Old country breakfast–> Lets roll with Old West Cafe in Denton, Tx – (Good stuff, but get there early to beat the line)
Texas BBQ – Many options, but today I’ll say either 407 BBQ in Arglye,Tx or Hurtados in Arlington,Tx (Don’t forget to order Texas Twinkies)
Entertainment: Watching Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers at the stadium is always a good time, win or lose. This year is looking good for the Boys, so let’s see what happens.
The lakes can be fun around here, either on a boat, fishing or kayaking. Always fun to empty brass at the gun range too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am blessed with a tremendous amount of people that contributed to where I am today, but I will only name a few. My wife gets the bulk of this recognition as she has been my rock who does not waiver in supporting me in all the sane and insane endeavors I have been involved in. From the beginning when we met, I was working at a warehouse making $8/hour but had a great schedule to where I could work full time in the day, and go to school at night and weekends. She believed in me then, and continues to believe in my ideas and work now. I have had a number of mentors throughout the years- guys like Hal Gay, Calvin Clark, Bruce Amason- guys that taught and encouraged me to put God first in my life. There are a lot of men that have been like a piece of iron in my life, and as the Proverb says: “iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”. I have lived by that standard, and it shows that life is meant to be done with people who will help you walk the straight and narrow, so you can live the life you are supposed to live.
