We had the good fortune of connecting with Dornella Crews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dornella, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Truthfully, it all stemmed from me wanting to do something that I genuinely love. I’ve always been interested in natural hair, beauty, and enjoy living a fun (yet affordable) lifestyle. Sharing my knowledge and experiences with others has brought me pure joy. My YouTube and social media sites were initially for personal use, however I’ve found so much more fulfillment in using my platforms to inform and connect with others who want to learn and/or share the same interests as I do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work consists of educating people of all aspects of natural hair, beauty, and lifestyle. It’s imperative to show others that they can easily achieve these things without breaking the bank or taking too much time out of their daily routine. I’m most excited about seeing others tryout the hairstyles, makeup looks, and even restaurants that they see me post! I love receiving feedback, answering questions, and giving advice in my realm of expertise. Initially, my line of work had been in supply chain management. It provided great opportunities and professional growth within the corporate world. In the midst of that career I realized that it wasn’t the right fit for me, and it allowed me to uncover what I’m truly passionate about; educating others on what I truly enjoy! The journey was not easy. It took some time to realize that money does not equate to happiness, and neither does the corporate title. I overcame that challenge by using the extra time during the pandemic to explore those things that I actually love to do, and found a way to turn this hobby into a profession. I want the world to know that my brand stems from a place of honesty, transparency, and happiness. Not only am I true to myself, I also vow to keep it 100 with my supporters!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay so boom. If my friend wants to stay at a super cute/boutique style hotel, I definitely recommend The Virgin Hotels in Dallas! They have complimentary drinks in the evening, rooftop pool, parties on the weekends, and great food! The city views are also a plus. For food, it just depends on what they’re in the mood for. I’m a firm believer in going to the hood for food. If you want a baked potato we can go to Kooly’s BBQ in Oak Cliff. Want crab legs? Aunt Irene’s. Jamaican food? Elaine’s Kitchen in South Dallas. If you want more of an upscale vibe, Perry’s Steakhouse is my spot! Kylde Warren Park is a great place to try food trucks and enjoy the great outdoors at the same time. Last but not least, let’s talk about nightlife. I enjoy more of a chill vibe, so I’d take my friend to a hookah lounge in Richardson called Casanova, or to a daquiri shop.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I would not be here or anywhere in my life without the grace of God. He has truly kept me through this journey called life, and I am forever grateful for His love. He also sent me my absolute favorite person in the world, my boyfriend Ryan Glover. He motivates me, loves to challenge me and overall pushes me to be the best version of myself. My mother Arlette Edinbyrd definitely deserves a shoutout because…I get it from my mama! She’s a praying woman who has always inspired me to be great at any and everything that I do. Her support means so much to me. Shoutout to my baby sis Kinterah Berry, who thinks she’s the oldest lol. I wouldn’t trade her for the world! She has always been my #1 supporter in everything that I do. My entire family and friends are absolutely awesome and have been there since Day 1. These are the people who constantly share my content and inform others of what I do, and I wouldn’t have come this far without them.
