We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am born and raised in Dallas, TX! I was blessed to be raised with both active parents. With the knowledge of hard work my father installed in me and my mother’s love and encouragement she grace me with, helped me become a beautiful young woman before their unfortunate passing. Growing up seeing how my body type as a young girl was not the idea body shape to have, I had a lot insecurity. My mother helped me to flaunt my flaws and embrace my curves which has also influenced me to open that door up even more to help other women embrace theirs.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart is: my flaws and imperfections. A lot of these boutiques show small waists and little to no flaws in pictures. I want to show unedited version of a “normal” plus size body type. I’m excited to be able to share my imperfections and show my plus size women “It’s okay to have a little this and that and wear this shirt or this dress if you want!” I got to where I am by looking at the needs to have local affordable plus size only Boutique and seeing the wants and needs of my BBW around me. No, it’s never easy to try to get through to my ladies that have insecurities and have them think that it is okay to flaunt your flaws and feel good in your body. It has its challenges when you trying to show the ladies who are stuck in being in the back, unseen to come out and show their self “okay I can wear this, I got this!” Getting at least one person in the feeling are one of the proudest moments for me! I am still learning along the way that it’s okay to say no, it’s okay to yes. It not okay to just accept it because you don’t want to deal with it. Stop the self sabotage and start going for what makes you YOU! I want the world to know that I am here for the plus size girls! I’m here to help show all your flaws and start being unapologetic to everything and everyone!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some places I would go on a girls weekend: hang out at Happiest Hour in Dallas (the name says it all), then hit up the hookah lounge in Richardson called ABI we’re going to chill and vibe to hip hop/r&b/African music. Next day go to brunch at the Biscuit Bar in Frisco, later, we’ll go to The Sugar Factory in Dallas have one of the best sugar and cocktail rush.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to knowledge my late mother, Kimberley Ward, thank you for being there continuously in spirit! Shoutout to my best friends my sisters for life Sarad Cregler and Glennis Pratt for continuing to believe in me vision! Last, but not least, my family/friends/customers… without you all I could not and cannot continue to do what I need to do: help flaunt my flaws! Thank you!
