We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, is there something you believe many others might not?
I hear a lot of people encouraging others to sacrifice rest as they build their business or chase their dreams.
I 100% disagree with this notion and “rise and grind” culture. My business is about self-care and following the advice of sacrificing rest caused me to sacrifice self-care. That sacrifice ruined my mental and physical health. I believe that steady progress is the way to build success. Having a schedule that allows you to take care of yourself is way more important than grinding non-stop and burning out.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create handmade bath and body products scented with essential oils. My products are meant to enhance an individual’s daily self-care practices. Think about it – if your schedule is crazy busy, you might think you don’t have time for self-care. Or, if you’re having a rough day, you might not have the energy for the types of self-care we often hear about most (i.e. massages, spa visits, dinner with friends, etc.). The purpose of Care Bath & Body Products is to make sure you have a little bit of self-care enhancement near you. For example, you might not make it to the spa, but you can create an at-home spa experience with self-care box that includes a bath bomb, sugar scrub, body butter, shea butter soap and candle. If you’re having a rough day and the best thing you can do is take a shower, use my body butter after your shower to moisturize your skin while getting aromatherapy benefits from the essential oil scent of your choice.
My business was literally created during a rough time in my life. I want to help people get through their rough times in this small way. Making products for others helps me better manage anxiety and keeps me in good spirits.
I want people to know that my business is all about spreading love and care to others. One of my priorities is supporting other small businesses owned by individuals that identify as Black, Native American/Indigenous/First Nations, Latin/Hispanic, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities and People of Color. I prioritize purchasing most of my supplies and materials from their companies. These things are important to me and the core of who I am so it’s incorporated into my business habits and priorities.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d definitely visit Vegan Food House, Nuno’s Tacos & VegMex Grill and Val’s Cheesecakes for food.
Places to visit: Museum of Illusions, Ft. Worth Zoo, Cedar Ridge Preserve, White Rock Lake, Live music in Deep Ellum and Pan-African Connection
I think there are always dope events happening around the city. I would definitely take friends or family to a festival, fair, or live music event. My favorite events are hosted by MTI Music Solutions.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are SO many people that I want to shoutout — this could take forever! Haha!
I really have to shoutout my customers. I have the most amazing and understanding customers in the world! I wouldn’t be a success without them. Thank you to everyone that made a purchase, sent referrals, shared social media posts, supported pop-up shops/vendor events, and suggested new products. I am grateful that you chose me.
