We had the good fortune of connecting with Diya Mirchandani and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We always wanted to own a business and be our own boss and having so many ideas and creativity that could only be fulfilled in owing a business! It was during the pandemic that we realized that our job is not as secure as we thought it is! Everyone was going through a hard time with so many layoffs and insecurity of being an employee, I wanted to have a secured job that would only happen if I open my own business. During Pandemic what I realized is that the government was helping the small businesses in the form of PPP and EIDL loans and owning a business had a lot more benefits than working for someone! It definitely requires a lot of hard work and dedication with late nights and early mornings but once you love what you do then there’s no looking back!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It may seem to be like any other liquor store but what sets us apart is the customer care & the service we give our customers! From day one we made sure that anybody who walks in will always be greeted with a smile & be personally attended and if there’s anything that the customer needs that we don’t carry, we will try to get it and they will be notified once we have it. Even if the customer couldn’t find what they’re looking for, we’ll not let them go empty handed, they are given a lil goodie and put a smile on their face, that’s what gives them a sense of belonging and they do come back.

When I see good reviews with just a small act of kindness that makes our customers feel special, it gives me great satisfaction and makes me very proud in serving more to the community.
Our journey hasn’t been an easy one! With that being said, there were too many obstacles our way, but I was very committed & determined to this project and had already made up my mind that no matter what, I’ll keep going, Plus we had no experience and knowledge about Liquor business and were very skeptical as to how things would end up! But for us we had to take a risk and put our savings and learn as we go. Our first few months were challenging, there were days with zero or minimal sales which was very heartbreaking, we had sleepless nights and a lot of pressure as the bills still had to be paid, but we had to wake up with a positive mindset and start with a fresh day.

We are still very new and learning everyday, but we’re here to stay and give our customers the best possible service. What makes us unique is, our store is a one stop shop where along with beverages, you’ll find Chocolates, Cheese, champagne jelly, Charcuterie gift sets, holiday gift sets, unique Glass collection, gift bags and everything that you could think of! And the best part of our service is, if we don’t carry anything that the customer needs, we do make sure to get it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My most favorite spot in the city id Grandscape, in Colony! What I love most about Grandscape is, it has everything for kids, teens, adults and elderly. Whenever my family comes over. the kids love the Andretti, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from, they have musical fountains and everything for all ages!

My second favorite place is the Dallas museum of art which has a cafe inside it and lots of shopping and beautiful skyline in downtown Dallas. That would definitely be one of the places I would take a tour of.

Fort Worth Stockyards even called “Where the west begins” would be my next place! I personally love this place as it has so much culture and history of Texas. The historic downtown has the cattle drive along with live music and rodeo which gives a glimpse of the Texas culture. From shopping at the locally made boots, to enjoying our local food, the stockyards gives an amazing experience of the historic & cultural background!

My next best place is the Dealey Plaza, which has plenty of things to do. From the Arts District to the Perot Museum and not forgetting the Klyde Warren Park are among the best spots I would include in my Itinerary! The area is surrounded with great restaurants, shopping, scenic parks and an amazing skyline which has our famous Reunion Tower. There’s a private JFK Assassination tour that gives a glimpse of events that led to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, that is one of the notorious events in Dallas history!

These are few of my favorite places in the city!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big shoutout to my husband Navin, who’s always been very supportive of my decisions! Though I had to convince him a lot in the beginning as it was a big investment, but finally he did agree to my vision! We had no knowledge and experience of owning a liquor business, and it was a big challenge as we had to know so many things before getting started and do everything from the scratch without knowing much! But I had already made up my mind that I want to be an entrepreneur and its about time to take action, so I decided that we’ll learn as we grow! It has been a crazy journey from more lows to less highs but we’ve been fortunate enough that by talking to a lot of people with similar businesses, and knowing about their journey and they succeeded, helped a lot in understanding the Business Culture!
