We had the good fortune of connecting with Dillon Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dillon, how does your business help the community?
My yoga classes give the community an opportunity to focus on only themselves for an hour. Sometimes having an hour without your phone, checking emails, or scrolling through social media is the best thing you can do for yourself. During this hour I encourage my class to stay present in the space we are in and show their body love. I think self love is incredibly important; I often refer to my yoga students as The Self Love Club. I encourage my students to find ways to show their bodies love on and off of the yoga mat. Yoga is so much more than the physical practice of moving your body, it is about connecting your mind and breath to your movements and bringing awareness into your body. My yoga classes give others tools they can take home with them and use anytime they need a break throughout their busy day to day life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting to where I am today was not always easy, I had to think outside of the box and find ways to offer low cost yoga classes to the community. I want to make yoga available to everyone. I don’t want someone to miss out on the opportunity of finding the benefits of yoga because of the price. I am most proud of the growth during the pandemic. Dillon Faith Yoga officially launched as a LLC in January of 2020. After only a few months of operating, the pandemic forced gyms and yoga studios to shut down, bringing my hard work of growing my business to a stop. I tried to find ways to offer yoga online during this time, but after a few weeks everyone grew tired of at home workouts and wanted more. Once we got word that we could be outside as long as we stayed six feet apart, I found a small gazebo at a park in Saginaw and started classes again. I charged $5 for an hour class, two days a week. At first it started small with just a few friends, but as time went on people saw us there every Monday and Wednesday night and slowly our little yoga classes began to grow. The outside yoga classes started in May and continued throughout the heat of the Texas summer. I had to cancel classes once it got too cold to practice yoga outside but I am hoping to start back up again in April for more fresh air and yoga. I have learned that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. I could have taken this time during COVID to sit back and wait for things to go back to normal, but I learned that thinking creatively and staying consistent really pays off.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I spend a lot of my free time going to concerts. If someone was visiting Fort Worth I would take them to my favorite venues around town. One that is a must see is The Post at River East. It is a one stop shop, they have great food, drinks, and the best live music in DFW. This is one of the coolest music venues I have ever been to! We would also swing by Magnolia Motor Lounge and The Mule Barn to see some great live music. As far as food, I am a huge fan of The Woodshed Smokehouse- they have the best brussel sprout salad and an amazing atmosphere.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am a huge Dave Hollis fan. Over the past 3 years his instagram live videos, speeches at conferences, and his book have taught me how to show up for myself and push myself beyond what I think I am capable of achieving. One of my favorite quotes from Dave is “Who you think you are is how you will show up in the world.” Dave’s work and perspective on life has played a huge role in helping me reshape my mindset and motivated me to believe in myself and my dreams. The motivation and knowledge he has passed on to me over the years has empowered me to want to teach others self love and push the students in my yoga classes to be the best version of themselves because we are all worth the work.
