We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Beabout and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, how do you think about risk?
Overall, I’ve never really been afraid to take risks. I’ve always said that I would rather try and fail, then never try at all. I don’t ever want to look back and wonder what could’ve been. I also understand that often times for big rewards, big risks are necessary. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying taking risks isn’t scary at times. It absolutely can be. But I knew that the regular 9 to 5 desk job wasn’t for me. I knew that in order for me to have the life that I envisioned, that I would have to go out and make it happen. Blood, sweat and tears and all.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Glow Up Salon Tx is a luxury, full service salon and suites. We are a sanctuary for you come and relax and be pampered. We are passionate about providing the absolute best client experience possible. In a world where quality customer service is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, we want to bring that back, in the best way possible.
There have been plenty of challenges since I opened my first salon, umm hello Covid. But, I didn’t give up, I kept going. It certainly wasn’t easy. But knowing that I had so many people depending on me and the salon forced me to keep going. I wasn’t going down that easy!
However, what Covid did teach me is that I have to be willing to change direction and adapt at a drop of a hat. It taught me that I have to be willing to do things that maybe I hadn’t been interested in, or go a direction that I previously hadn’t considered. Adaptability is key!
What do I want the world to know? That I’m here! A single mom, doing it, working my butt off. So like the cliche goes “if I can do it, so can you”! When your hair and skin look gorgeous you have more confidence to take on the world, and that’s just a fact!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d definitely have to hit up some museums (art history major here). Like the Modern, the Kimbell and the DMA. Maybe catch a Dallas Cowboys game. For sure have to go to the Stockyards, maybe Hotel Drover, Second Rodeo, Billy Bob’s. And then food! I’m a major foodie. So we’d have to go to Joe T’s (just for atmosphere), Lonesome Dove, Shinjuko Station, Winslow’s…so many I can’t even think of them all. Shopping too, probably North Park, the Galleria, maybe Clearfork or South Lake Town Square.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My girls are my reason for doing all that I do. They make me want to be better and work harder for them. They are my why. I want to be a good role model for them and show them that they can be/do whatever they want, as long as they are willing to work for it. Nothing in life is handed to you. And I hope to teach them the value of hard work, determination and perseverance. The sky is the limit, but you gotta go out and get it. It’s also important for me to be able to give them all the things I didn’t have growing up. I want them to have a good life. But also, I want them to see me working and doing something that I’m passionate about and enjoy, rather than just settling.
