We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Barrese and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind Labeled was really based off my mom’s kitchen. She has so much Tupperware and she had this one cabinet that she just stuffed it all into and you always had to close the door really fast after getting something out of it because otherwise something was always bound to fall out. Not only was it messy but you had to dig to find a top that matched the container and nothing ever matched. I always keep that in the back of my mind when I’m putting together a new space because it is something that small that just makes things simpler. Why come home after a long day and to go to make yourself a meal and have to spend time digging for spices or not being able to find a cooking tool? Or with kids and playrooms, I previously worked in a daycare and toys were always scattered and left in miscellaneous places, but by organizing your playroom, it makes clean up faster and easier, finding toys is no longer a chore or process and, aesthetically, it just looks so much prettier! Especially if you like to entertain guests! Labeled is really just about helping others have a more manageable and stress free environment at home- creating functional, customizable and aesthetically pleasing systems. I saw the difference it made it my own home so I know it can make a difference in others.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Starting a business is always challenging and really finding your process and implanting it has, honestly, been the more challenging part. It is a lot of trial and error and takes a lot of patience. You don’t just become successful overnight, nor do you want to rush the process and have it completely collapse in front of you either. I’ve learned overtime that taking your time, having patience and communicating with your clients is key. As far as standing out from the crowd and being unique- I’m just myself. I’m young, I’m only 30 years old and I really like to get to know my clients and build a relationship with them. I’m not someone who comes in, does my job and then leaves. I enjoy talking with my clients and getting them involved in the process. It is their home and they need to feel comfortable and me and the process.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Dallas/Fort Worth area has so much to offer! I’d you’re a sports fan, you are definitely in the right place to check out a football game, baseball or hockey (my personal preference). Forth worth is all about the stockyards, bbq and music! You can’t come to Texas without catching a show at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, it is by far my favorite place to see a show!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am absolutely addicted to The Home Edit! Clea and Joanna are amazing! I bought their book (The Home Edit: A guide to organizing and realizing your house goals) from the container store several years ago and it is proudly displayed on my coffee table. I must have read it hundreds of times and have repeatedly watched their new show on Netflix, Get Organized, several times as well!
