We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Dominguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamond, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The majority of my life, I have been risk-adverse. I would talk myself out of starting a business because of the risk of not succeeding, the risk of losing money, the risk of taking too much time away from my personal life. Risk and fear could be interchangeable in situation. Fear of taking risks have gotten in the way of my growth and helping more people.
When I decided that I was going to start Hands and Feet Postpartum Care Services, my past fears that held me back were no longer in my mind. The purpose and the impact of this work was far greater than being afraid to take this risk. If I couldn’t see the positive side of taking risks, I would have stopped myself from serving people in this capacity. I started this business to serve parent(s) with hopes of making sure my clients feel supported during one of the most vulnerable season of their lives.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We provide one-on-one new parent support. We provide two postpartum packages that focuses on reliable hands-on services such as light housekeeping, infant care, sibling care, mental check-ins, and monitoring for signs of postpartum depression or anxiety. We provide a nesting package that helps parent(s) prepare for new baby, hospital/birthing center birth, and prepare diaper caddies and comfort station for birthing person. We are excited about being able to also provide services such as lawn care, bassinet/crib setup, carseat installation, pet care, and prepared and delivered nourishing meals that promote lactation, easy to digest, energizing, and delicious. We wanted to make sure we are able to cover as many needs as possible to ease the mind of the birthing person and/or family during this new season. I am CPR trained for adults, young children, infants, dogs, and cats. My goal is that this provides another level of comfort to birthing person so they can rest while I serve them.
We are able to serve in this capacity because of our community that held us up in different ways to make our dream a reality. It was not always easy but because of our community, we were able to overcome a lot of our challenges or at least lighten the burden.
I’ve learned that in order to make an impactful business, you have to be a student first. Don’t be afraid to ask A LOT of questions. You don’t have to do everything or know everything. We all have different gifts. I am blessed to know a lot of amazing and skilled people who are experts in different fields that allowed me to support their business while they help build mine. I’ve also learned that not everyone will understand your dream or be just as excited about it as you are. Instead of letting them be a barrier to accomplishing your goals, keep it pushing. It’s not for everyone to understand. Its up to you to believe that you can do this.
For me, it’s not about the money. It’s about serving people. To provide a space where people can authentically be themselves and showing up for them fully. Being a parent is HARD. It’s even harder when you don’t have a supportive community or when unrealistic expectations are put on you as a parent. In this vulnerable and difficult season, my aim is to make their journey easier. I am here to advocate for the birthing person. If the birthing person is healthy physically and mentally, the whole family thrives. We can achieve this when birthing person is taken care of.
