We had the good fortune of connecting with Devon Hillary and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devon, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I definitely think the most important factor is that people see me as authentic. I do not want people thinking I am just starting this brand to make money, my brand will never be about how much money I can possibly make. The most important thing is that my messege is spread and that people honestly buy my clothes and think of how their purchase helped spread awareness and put money towards further research.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want the world to know that my brand is for them. No matter who the person is they are just as important as I am or any other person. My brand, Dapper Dev Clothing, is all about mental health awareness and just being mindful of each persons mental health. I want to erase the stigma that mental health is a sickness, and I want to erase the stigma that caring for your mental health is a girly thing. Anytime someone sees an item from my collection in their closet, I want it to be a reminder to take care of yourself and if they choose go wear something from me someone else could see it and know that they are not alone in whatever they are going through.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always say a must stop is STIRR in Deep Ellum, they are usually pretty packed but when a table is available if is definitely worth the wait. I don’t really get out much honestly, since I am more of a home body.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Im so thankful to have so many amazing people in my life set me up for success. My grandparents have helped me so much with life in every aspect, from building a custom shoe rack, to sending sewing thread, to paying for my life expenses, and helping me get through college. I hope I am able to make them all very proud and I want them to know the things they do for me are highly appreciated and I attribute so much of who I am to all my grandparents. Along with them, I have to thank my parents for pushing me to follow my dreams and my amazing Girlfriend that has been through this entire process with me and has been my inspiration for so many of my projects and her family for accepting me into their home and helping me bring all my dreams to life. My aunts have also been along in my path to help, which leads to me working with Rich Skin by Khadijah so huge shoutout to Khadijah for trusting me with the look of her brand. The final and most important is God, through this time I have been so grateful to be able to have any success at all and so ik thankful to God everyday for allowing me to experience this feeling and be able to hopefully help other people.
